Just ordered the following:
Intel Core i5 750
ASUS P7P55D-E LX
4GB G.Skill RipJaw 1600MHz
1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
OCZ 400w PSU
Akasa AK-ICR-01B Card Reader
XFX GeForce 8600GT
The products arrive AM tomorrow, I'll be building on Saturday so I'll have pictures on Wednesday probably.

I can't, it's my Grandad's. I doubt he'd want me touching it if I voided the warranty.
He'll be happy at stock tbh.

looks a really decent spec, and should fly at stock for you grandad. I guess he'll be using it for browsing, photo editing, workhorse stuff?

Video decoding/encoding. It's important that he makes a... backup.. of every DVD he gets. :D

The good news is that the rig is stupidly quick. The bad news is that my Granddad thinks it's slower than his Pentium 4 3GHz build /facepalm.

The computer was fairly noisy - but that was more the 4x 80mm fans on the case.
run it on xp 64bit and watch him change his tone :D

No. XP fails miserably. It slows itself down so much over time. I have to reinstall my old mans system every few months because it gets so bad.
Have you not heard of a defrag? I really can't see an OS will need to be reinstalled every few months to speed it up. Yes XP is old but when looked after properly, it's fine, a bit like all of Windows OS's. :p

ccleaner and a defrag one a week. Keeps ours in check. Same install's been going about 9 months now...... and its running OK.
Obviously not forgetting to run Disk Cleanup before the defrag. ;)

I do have the original floppy disks for windows 3.1 and dos 6.0. Could be more amusing.
If I mention the word linux to him he can't be bothered to listen to the rest of the sentence.:rolleyes:
