I don't like Theo at all. He was poor against Japan, didn't seem confident at all!

Not a Walcott fan myself, no final product at all (except against Croatia).

I feel sorry for Bent, big, strong, fast and can finish, with the exception of Rooney the other strikers only have 3 of those 4 qualities. I think he should have been given more than a half to prove himself. Still I suppose Capello sees them train.

From what i have heared there are going to be a lot of long faces & unbelieveable obmissions.

I am beginning to think we can forget it already !!!

Capello missed an opportunity. Heskey would have been better at left back. Left back in England that is...

tystar
01-06-10, 16:09
Adam Johnson would have been a better choice than SWP....

nft99
01-06-10, 16:25
Johnson took SWP place at City but the SWP goes to the world cup.....

Heskey why o why :( it must be good whatever he got on Capello! Didnt Michael Owen score more goals than heskey last season???

El Wayneo

CRouch upfront with Rooney and Defoe playing off of him, only way we can win.

Nick42
01-06-10, 16:32
Well i would have taken

Baines for warnock

Johnson for swp

bent for defoe

Otherwise what you expected will we win with this squad?

I still can't get over the Heskey 'bashing', the guys a pure team player. I've been a fan ever since we called him Bruno at Filbert Street when he came from the youth team. We have speed, skill and football intelligence in Rooney, aerial threat from Crouch and muscle from Heskey, the pure pace of defoe and his completely selfish approach to the game that has development at Spurs with a shoot on sight mentality and that's a pretty good mix of a front line. Certainly gives options to the manager depending on the opponents.

In the middle of the park, once again we have a variety of players who fill different boots. Workhorses, pace and defence minded players, we can go for a late goal or sit and shut up shop. The same applies to our defence options, speed with experience although there are some players in there that raised an eyebrow.

Goalkeepers, well the rules state you must take three, and as I was reading somewhere else, there has only been one instance in the world cup history in a long time that has seen a team field three keepers over the course of the competition.

I'm personally appalled at the bickering, the team selection hammering. It's time to throw support behind the men picked, patriotism time. I know they say the media doesn't affect the players but it must in some form. I suppose we wouldn't be true English unless we complained about something :D

Looking at it again I can't really understand Upson, not only has he been crap this season but I just mean a 5th central defender in general.

King, Rio, Terry and Carragher is surely enough cover there, if push comes to shove even Barry can fill in there (if fit). I would prefer an extra forward to throw on if chasing a game

I think upson is there as injury cover really, can't really see him starting if we have the others fit, but with our central defenders injury history we really had to have proper cover. It has happened many times where a midfielder playing center defender gets makde to look silly at this level.

I know what you mean but Barry did start out as a defender at Villa, mainly at left back but he did play in the centre quite a few times. Add to this Milner has spent a lot of time at right back (did he even play for England once there ?) I would have risked it. In the unlikely event that Rio, King and Terry all went down injured then we could have a back four of:

Milner Carragher Barry Cole

Pretty crap to be fair but at least they all have some knowledge of their positions.

Saying all that I'm not sure who my attacking wild card would be in place of Upson. I think Capello see's J.Cole as an option right across the front line. I just hope Rooney's ankle holds out otherwise we look really ordinary.

Partially agree, Heskey is still crap, imho.

Team player he maybe but he's a striker (supposedly) and strikers are supposed to score goals of which he is severly lacking.

For England he has something like (quick google) 58 caps 7 goals? Not a great tally really. John Terry is only one goal behind him for a similar number of caps.

I am behind the team but think Cappelo could have made a better choice, Walcott for one with his pace.

02-06-10, 15:27
I suppose if your winning by 1 goal and there's 10mins or so to play and you want a front man that can hold the ball up etc then I suppose you can throw Heskey on.

Also what's the stats on Rooney scoring when playing with each of the other front men.

We never support England, that is why we fail.

There is also too much pressure on the time. Hell even the BBC reports about them getting ona place today!! Who the hell cares when they leave for SA??? I only care that they come back with a cup as a hold on luggage. :/

I think you misunderstand the difference between critique and not supporting.

The whole country goes England mad, just look at all the flags already, we fail as you put it because we can't ever play as a team, and there are better teams outthere.

This isn't the best squad we have had so i'm not expecting anything more than quarter finals.

But hey,

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!

Yes and all that pressure results in us being lame every single tournie, aside from '66 & '90 & '96 (Euro).

I fear for the England team in 10 years time, where are the next gen of England stars going to come from?
