I'm off to Africa again this year for 3 weeks - although this time, its 100% at the expense of the American Government, which is very nice of them!
But after Mat posted about some of the cameras he was looking at, and me thinking about the trip later this year, I thought I'd post some of the shots I took last year with a Panasonic Lumix FZ18.. I've got hundreds more, but these were some of my favourite - no photoshopping either, other than resizing. This is how they came off the camera..

And this last one was just for amusement.. This is a picture of part of a newly rolled road, roughly 10mins after the workforce had just finished rolling the underlay (or whatever its called) of gravel ready to put the tarmac down... (obviously not on the bit I was driving on at the time!) :lol:

absolutely stunning. Panasonic have definetely got it sorted with the Lumix range when it comes to pictures usable straight off the "reel" :D

Nice pics, what country in Africa was it? and what country are you going to this year?
I have been to Tunisia a couple of times but I'm a little scared to go to "safari" country incase I get machetted. I guess thats a stereotypical view, where is safe for British to go and still see these wonderful animal's?

I'm teaching at a music school for 5 days while I'm out there... So the american govt is paying for flights, and also for me and my girlfriend to go on a 4 day safari, staying at a £500/night per person lodge with all drives etc on them too - as a way of saying thankyou.. I didnt say no.. :lol:

Zambia is where I'm off to this year, and is where I went last year too.. Last year, I did some camping in the bush for a few nights.. It was amazing with some of the things we saw, but I has a slightly too close for comfort encounter with a few lions.. That was about 1km away from my tent.. I didnt sleep so well that night :lol:
The people are very friendly though.. Its just driving where you sometimes take your life in your own hands :lol: :lol:

Looks nice! Rougly how much did the trip set you back?Well, I was there for 3 weeks last year too, and I just had to pay for flights which I managed to get from BA for about £530.. American Govt covered most of the rest of it. I probably spent £100 while I was out there. This year, everything is being paid for by the Americans :D Flights are booked and everything is organised, so hopefully this year it'll cost me literally next to nothing. I'm going for 3 weeks again this year too..

Yeah, its an amazing place. I went to Zambia last year, and doing the same this year too. Hopefully go down to Vic Falls in Livingstone again for a few days. Absolutely stunning place. Although the white water rafting was an experience I'm not sure I'd do again in a hurry.. It was pretty awesome tho! :D
The photo of the rainbow at the top is at Vic Falls. I took it standing next to a very small bridge over a bit of the canyon. The rainbow in the photo was actually a full 360 degrees.. It went under the bridge and joined up with itself.. Absolutely one of the most stunning things I've ever seen!

It really is a magical place, i was in Johannesburg for a couple of days then stayed at my aunt mags log cabin hotel kinda thing :D, it was brilliant it was close to croc infested waters and one night a hippo came up to the garden :p, went to a safari but had to go to Zimbabwe for it, was great though because we travelled in a small plane and it was just low enough that we could still see the ground :D highly recommended it really is a do-before-you-die holiday :)
Yeah, I think we'll be doing the plane thing this year too.. Its around a 12-15 hour drive to where the americans are taking us on Safari, so they are flying us there instead! :) Looking forward to it quite a lot! :)

yeah thats why we got the plane too :surprised: no chance were 7 of us going for a 15 hour drive :| the plane was great fun :D, you will enjoy it, im hoping to go back again soon :(
