View Full Version : Memory checking software?
Anyone know of a prog I can use to check my (PC) memory for errors? The basic reason is that I'm crashing out of BF2142 a lot and I'm getting a memory error message posted. Bizarrely, my old machine which is way underspecced for the game can play it without crashing out. Just wondering if it is the memory before I start looking around for other solutions.
I know something has been mentioned here before, but I'm too busy today to wade through the comments to find it. Any suggestions?
Cheers.

Sweet - cheers for that.
That's my evening sorted!
Make sure you are running you memory at the specified voltage, it might boot fine but fall over when you load it up.
yeah, it's running at the stock voltage. funny thing is, i have to change the memory setting in bios to get it to recognise it as PC8500 and not PC 6400.
Just ran memtest and everything is OK there. I guess 2142 must just not like my setup. Arses.
How long did you run memtest for? I'd run it overnight at least!

My point exactly the \"stock\" voltage as per the bios maybe lower than the recommended by the memory manufacturer, the fact the bios didn't set it to run the rated speed kinda suggests it isn't running the rated voltage, check the manufacterers webby, specifically the voltage and set to whatever their max rated voltage is, or almost the max at least, i wager its set to 1.8 / 1.9 and probably needs 2.1+
Good thoughts, although I'm sure the memory is set to the right amount right off the stock settings - something around 2.1, although that is from memory. Will check tonight. I hope it's this simple. How silly to overlook this one thing!
Had a quick look at the Corsair website and they state
Tessted at EPP settings.......at 2.4v
So i would up it to around hmmmm 2.4v maybe ;)
I've upped it to 2.25, but I will give 2.4 a go. I want to check all the voltages now. Hmmm.
