View Full Version : Spam?
I've just got an email, sent to the address that only Aria have been given, advertising a company called Gadgets4you.
Is this a part of Aria? I can't see any information that links them to Aria and I definitely wouldn't give Aria permission to pass on my email address.
Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
This is new to me as i have never heard of this site before and i dont have an email about this site either. But saying that the company is also based in Manchester (Trafford Park). So im currently puzzled.
Regards,
Michael Walmsley
Yeah, Ive had a couple of emails from Gadgets4you too. I hadnt made the connection between Aria and them, as I just assumed it was something that I had given my email address to to find out when it launched.
Interesting..
oh - and welcome to the forum too! :D
Looks like i wasn't the only one getiting these e-mails then, could someone from aria tell us whats going on
regards
dan
Who cares? It's just an e-mail! Push delete, oh all gone :D

Its been 3 for me so far ;) All saying that Gadgets4you is launching...
but yeah - it was a quick spam filter update and it doesnt bother me now.
Gadgets4u might even be good :)
By the way, I've never had the e-mail...

It's probably all the p0rn sites you visit ;)
Firstly, I have several spam filters in place. I get hundreds of spams a day, so it's essential.
But why should I have to do this? I've never heard of this company, I didn't give them an email address to contact me, why should I have to mess about wasting my disk space and processor time filtering out something that shouldn't have been sent to me in the first place?
The other issue is where did they get my email address from? I use unique addresses for each company I do business with. I do not give them permission to pass my email address on to any other company. Yet this company has the address I gave to Aria.
This means that either Aria are passing on our details to them without permission, or they've managed to gain access to Aria's customer list through other means.
Either way, Aria appear to have a problem.

I'm pretty sure that this company is nothing to do with us. I've sent a few emails just in case I am very wrong and will try and do some digging but I'm pretty sure we have no affiliation at all. Plus, if you haven't opted to share your email address, we/I certainly wouldn't pass your address to an external company!!

It's on its way.
Thanks Lucy.
anything happen with this??
I was wondering the same thing.
Just hadn't got around to posting anything yet.
I forgot to forward this reply on, in May:
Hi Listicath
We are still investigating. We have very strong suspicions that it may have been foul play but I can't really say any more than that as there may be repercussions. It may be a while until I can tell you guys what the situation is/was but sit tight and when I get the nod to let you know, I will! Also, please feel free to post this information if you would like to.

Haven't heard anything else since, though. :(

Hmm... ex-employee stealing data from Aria before leaving, and using it to market a company he/she's now joined? or just sold it to them in a pub? Shady possibilities...

I use a unique address for every entity that I deal with, so for aria it's aria@mydomain.com and nobody else gets that address.
Yesterday I received a typical Nigerian 419 Scam-type email to my Aria address, so it looks like the problem is worse than first suspected. I know of at least one contact who has received the same email.

I don't think that Aria are doing anything with your email address - they work quite hard to get details that they're competitors don't have and I guess it's worth more as a secret...
I receive junk email to my work email address - and that's only known by people I work with - I think the people sending spam are just trying random email addresses, anything that doesn't bounce they know is a real email address...
There are also some which have a fake 'unsubscribe' link - when you click the link it confirms the address is real and you get more and more junk - I had to abandon my hotmail account completely because I was getting over 100 spam email each day and about 3 legitimate ones (I know - I'm Mr. popularity)...
