ok so i am planning on buying a new 5850 after the one i did get was not a referance design and would hinder my W/C when it comes to it :/
i have been looking at the XFX HD 5850 AvP edition but there are 2 different images of the card you get and i have no idea which one is right?

Image #2 looks more like the reference design I've seen on the net for them, but I'd email Aria directly and ask them via customer support.

Hi there

Do you mean the XFX 5850 AVP Edition?

If so its the newer cooler design as in the pictures on our website or the first picture you posted.

Not got a clue on that front sorry m8 as we dont sell waterblocks.

I wonder which design is better... although I've heard V2 of the cooler (bat mobile) is superior to the reference one.

it looks better and i would love to have it but if i can't OC it or W/C it then i don't want it :/

AMD provide software to automatically let you overclock 5000 series GPU's. As for water cooling, I'm 90% certain that the PCB layout is the same as the reference and it's just the cooler that has improved efficiency and so reduced noise and lower temperatures. As such there should be no issues mounting a W/C block designed for reference 5870's, but with that in mind, you're simply paying more for the AVP edition to get the new cooler, if you plan to W/C get a reference card for less.

the water cooling is only a maybe atm as it mainly depands on what sort of clocks i can get on air
