Thread on air compressors got me thinking....

Want a decent qaulity accurate air compressor for inflating tyres, bit bored of paying 50p etc and having to queue at petrol station to put some air in tyres.

Digital display would be far preferable to gauge, or even better being able to set 33 PSI for example, connect and let it do the magic, connection also important so it doesn't lose loads of air when disconnecting it.

There is a thread on air compressors?

I have a proper tyre inflator for my work compressor, Just pull the car in and use that.

I hate the little compressors, Takes ages to do anything and so noisey!:(

How long would a mobile one take to go from 29 - 33 psi for example? just to top tyres up every now and again

I have a crappy halfords one but it does the trick, few mins just to top the tyres up every now & again.

Set it to the desired psi (little dial thingy) then just press the on button. It is noisy but it was about the cheapest one I could find lol. I keep it as a backup coz the kids are always nicking my footpump.

Had one of those and it was god awful, so noisy and took forever.

Would look at trying to get a digital version now.

I have one and its takes about 30seconds... its a "coopers" unit. Very nice actually.

It really depends how bog your tyres are and which one you buy; I had a nice "free"* one from Halfords years ago that was pretty quick, but killed itself after about 2 years; most of them seem to die after 2 years!!

* I bought it with a load of other stuff, but when I got home I realised it was not on the receipt; the girl definitely scanned it, I heard the machine go "beep"!! Should have been about £50!!

Ive got a halfords one I think, just set it to a pressure on the gauge and it automatically cuts off, but this thread has just reminded me... need to pump the tyres up on the mini, will do that tomorrow.

I have a Halfords one, the gauge on mine for the cut off is highly inaccurate! I use a separate digital pressure gauge and base my 'testing' on those figures (taken when tyres are cold).

I think mine takes about 20s a psi or thereabouts...depends on the volume of air your tyres take.

this is why i wanted a digital one, i've used gauges in the past which have been 3-4 psi out. Over hundreds of miles gives uneven tyre wear :knock:

It can really affect the handling of the car too.

I check mine with a meter afterwards, it's usually quite close (I guess I got a lucky one)
