Hello folk, which are the bet drivers for these cards??
I have heard reports of the cards artifacting in 3dm vantage, how is it they artifact exactly?? Poor textures? Missing details? Floating people? or is it more a wash of bright lights?
Thanks in advance
Andy

Many new cards have initial teething trouble until drivers get problems under control. Quite simply regularly check the AMD site and get the latest Catalyst releases as they come out, which at time of posting is the version 10.3 set from 24th March. A good example of problems was random crashes seen when people were using a certain manufacturers (who shall not be named) drivers for new 5870 card. The manufacturer was including beta 8 series drivers instead of the current 10 series drivers and so people who didn't know to update were ending up with very unstable systems purely due to using the wrong, although supplied, drivers.

thanks for the reply, it was more an "on hand experience" I was after, already into butchering drivers ini files cfg files etc to get the most out of a system. Its more the teething troubles I have seen regarding certain drivers with certain cards subject to windows updates etc that can cause the instabilities.
I know of a profile thats pretty much spot on however its a bit of a faf that involves altering voltages and idle clocks to avoid driver crash errors.
So with that in mind, thoughts?

I never have had any troubles with my ati drivers, running 10.3 has been the best of the lot so far, then again all of them work perfectly for me. 10.3 giving a nice little speed boost. 10.3 gives you the chance to create profiles and do all kinds of editing you couldnt before. There is a 10.5 beta thats floating around the web if your feeling adventurous. I would say use rivatuner or atitool or similar to do your overclocking profiles seperatley, or voltage tweak whatever you prefer. Dont do it inside ati catalyst as it just doesnt provide enough flexibility.
I have been running the 10.5 beta and its fine.
Can't help with the 5970 though, sorry.
