View Full Version : MemTest = 1 error in 3 hours

Ran MemTest on my 6gb OCZ 1600MHz for 3 hours & got 1 error.

Should I be worried or should I let it go?

I'll do more tests on each stick individually.

Personally I would be worried.

May be worth, if possible, to do one stick at a time.

even a single error in 5 hours = faulty memory,

as per WL, run one stick at a time and see which is causing the error

Will run a stick tonight & see.

From reading the OCZ forums their opinion seems to be that memtest will stress you ram less than normal day to day usage of Windows & your programs.

Will see what comes out.

When ever I buy ram the first thing I do is run Memtest on it.

If it fails it goes back

+1 and I'm glad I'm not the only one :D

Run it again. It could be something that happened on the PC.

Are the voltages set correctly?

I had some memory that reported lots of errors, oddly enough i lowered the voltage and they went away.

+1

yeah i did read is volts/cas latency is drastically out it could break the memory and cause a memtest fail

Voltage & settings are bang on the money.

Ran a single stick overnight = PASS
Ran another stick in another slot = PASS
Ran another stick in the last slot = PASS

Go figure? :?

Did you, as suggested, ever re run the original tests? It would eliminate a temporary issue, perhaps caused by a small spike on the power line.

You might even get a different result with the same memory sticks in different slots.

No research scientist worth listening to would rely on a single set of measurements before rushing into print.

I've tried every stick in every slot.

Only once have I had an error when the test has run.

The only other time something has gone wrong was when MemTest didn't load correctly & crashed after about 10 seconds

Download a copy of Memtest

http://www.memtest.org/

Or if you have something like an Ubuntu Live CD it will have the option if you boot from the disk.

I hate it when people sell RAM and say they memtested it only to go and take a picture of the ram sitting on carpet or the end of their bed.

Yes. You run the risk of infection by bed bugs.

Maybe somebody should tell Dram manufacturers not to bother with Anti-Static bags then and supply bug spray. :p
