Hi everyone,
This mornning i turned on my PC and the bios loads ok but then when it comes to the OS loading it stops and then it reboots.
I have changed some of the bios settings and it still the same. By the fourth time trying to load i got it working, just before i was going to be late for college!
So whats is cousing this, would it be the power supply?
Any advice would be greatful
Cheers

Could be a thousand different things really. Faulty CPU, bad memory, PSU, anything :)

Do you not get any blue screen errors etc?

Hi, nope no blue screens after the bios has done it's thing, you see the windows loading page then it would go off and then restart, weird thing, I have got a P4 3.0GHz which my college lectures say is a bit weak, but it has been running fine for about 8 months

A bit weak? What exactly does he mean by that?

Without knowing alot about the error its very hard to suggest what it could be.

I'd guess one of 3 things..

1) A windows install that has given up - I had one doing exactly the same, so I did a repair install (NOT the recovery console)
2) Dying PSU
3) Dying RAM

yea a bit weak i only have a 460W, and he recommends at least a 500W. I tryed some other RAM and it still did the same

I'd be tempted to try re-formatting again, assuming you keep all your data backed up, and on different partitions?

Well if its working fine now, then the 1st thing to do is backup all your data when you get home just incase.

Then run a CHKDSK on your hard drive and Defragment it.

If everything is ok then leave it, if its starts doing it again the i recommend a format and fresh install of Windows 8)

You get this sort of problem if the cpu fan is dead or even just dying or clogged. It is amazing how quickly the cpu will overheat and reboot at start up. I chased this sort of problem once for ages and found the fan was going at half speed. I replace all the fans with good ones now! Also if the psu is marginal (or on its way out) then I found that doing things like trying to write a cd will make it reboot. Sometimes it rebooted on just trying to read a cd? SO you might be right about the psu but check your fans.

after you posted this comment i check the cpu fan, and yes it was clogged up with a lot of dust, i have now replaced it with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler, and it's running great since i have installed it, is there any way of preventing dust of getting inside the case?

cheers guys
