Ok - so this is far less exciting than the title seems.

I'm looking for a 2nd car. Needs to be as low insurance group as possible, as low tax as possible, as economical as possible and cost around the £1500 mark with as much life in it as possible, but still be quite nippy and ok on the motorway. Oh - and safe too!

I'm going to call it the StingeMobile. :D

Any suggestions? It really doesnt need to be a flashy car. In fact, thats probably pretty near the bottom for requirements, although I don't want to be something that I don't want to get in to  I was thinking maybe a Yaris or something along those lines?

toyota aygo is great, dont know how much they cost and they're a bit small, but they're great little cars, very economical and great fun (pretty good power/weight ratio considering the tiny engine)

So going by that i don't think the Toyota Yaris will disappoint

FWIW the Citreon C1 and Peugeot 206 (i think) are identical to the Aygo, just with different trim and different prices, same reliability and consumption)

I wouldn't call any of them cars safe :p

You want something with some weight behind it not some fancy computer...

more weight= more momentum= less safe :P

anyway the Toyota fault wasn't as widespread as the media made out, and all affected models have been recalled havn't they?

Its gotta be a 306 HDI like Gibbo's well within your budget, low insurance, reasonably low tax £120 a year... And nippy once chipped...
Group 5 insurance >? And OK on a motorway aswell.

I haven't been under 25 for a while though...

Gibbos car 306 HDI was £900 apparently, so well within the budget

Id thought about a 306 actually - but I'm also thinking something a bit more on the lines of group 1-3 insurance.. But its definitely on the list! :D

Aaron

306 dturbo or a hdi for a bit more refinement (and less temptation to fiddle)
Run forever (sometimes kill gearboxes and headgaskets though) early dturbos with a bosch pump willl run on anything, diesel, bio diesel, vegetable oil, used chip fat.. )
90bhp (and easy to increase), 50mpg, grp 5 insurance. MY old dturbo was 290 a year on insurance.

VW golf 1.4, built like a friggin tank, comfortable, get an older model for £1500 easily.

I remember my old 1995 golf, someone went into the back of me at 40mph, wasn't a bit of damage.

Agreed or a Polo, same car just a little smaller cheaper insurance than the Golf

That was with Bell...and thinking about it, I was 21 (about 3 weeks before I was 22), lol.

0NCB and 1 accident in the past 3 years, license for 4.5 years.

Now though insurance is very random, Bell won't do less than £1000 on it with 5.5 years, 1NCB and 1 accident, but Aviva will give me awesome quotes of like £500 on loads of silly cars. :D

I have no car anymore though. :(

As for the OP. 306HDI is a good bet, as is a 2.0 Mondeo.

did you just swap insurance from old policy to the new car? or take out a fresh policy?
