So I know a few people on here have motorbike and was just seeing where is the best place to look at for insurance?

I have look at some of the main sites like GoCompare and Confused they they said between £1500 to £2500 on a new kawasaki klx125 (http://www.kawasaki.co.uk/KLX125) (125cc)
Is that about right or not?

I thought it was a tad expensive myself.

You getting a bike FL?

I went with Bennetts when i had my scooter, worth trying them they always came out cheap.

Yep gonna do my CBT after payday so I can get a 125cc bike to run to work and back on.

I can ride a 50cc on my car licence (because I passed before feb 2001) but want to get a 125cc so I have that little extra power to get me out of trouble in case I get in any.

Nar going to do it in Ashton mate as its only £99 or tempted to do the restricted test for £280.
With the restricted one you can only drive a 33bhp bike for two years then you can ride any bike you want :smile

Yeah the average is £99 on a cbt.

Once you done the cbt which you have to do anyway you can decide if you wanna do the test then once you have a feel for the road etc.

then buy the bike so you dont waste the cash and find you feel too exposed on the road.

It's a strange feeling the first few times out on the road on a bike after driving a car for so long as you dont have the nice protective shell around you.

Just on the bike I was looking at the kawasaki klx125 (http://www.kawasaki.co.uk/KLX125) but what do you think about cheap Chinese bikes like the Pulse Adrenaline 125 (http://www.pulsemoto.co.uk/view_XF125GY-2B.php)??

Worth it or not?

I'd have a look online for reviews on the chinese bikes as getting spares can be a pita for some.

Personally not a fan of moto cross bikes, much prefer cruiser's like this.

Thats the one i was gonna get before i got a car again.

Chinese bikes are popular because of their low low price, however, they are low because they use cheap, poorly designed parts and as already mentioned, replacements are not easy to get hold of.

Stick with the known brands, have a look for 2nd hand too. No point buying new when its your first bike, if you bin it then youre down that outlay already. Plus you wont want to be stuck on a 125 long, you will be itching for something bigger as soon as your licence route allows.

Try thebikeinsurer for quotes, its like gocompare etc but is specifically for bikes.

Ive got a CBR400 RR that would take a 33bhp restrictor kit for sale :P

Mind you, I'm old... ;-)

That would be a great buy for a new biker. MUCH better than some cheap Chinese crap which is going to plummet like a stone in value when you want to sell it (and believe me, you will want to dump it as soon as you pass your CBT) and which has all the build-quality of a Russian wheelbarrow.

CBR 400, even derestricted, is a nice first bike and will be easy to sell when the time comes.

isn't the CBR400 one of the "small" bikes?

What I mean it is physically very small and not good for taller riders?

Im 6 foot and it just about suits me, ideally new rearsets would be an advantage but my problem came mostly because i had a much larger zx636 previously. Didnt take long to adjust to it though.

Im also 14 stone but have no problem keeping up with so called superbikes through the twisties, it sticks to the road like glue.

Lol I have given a few sports bikes a shock through the twisties, not many people think a 300Kg sports tourer (well it was when the bike was launched ;)) can handle that well.

More down to the rider than the bike, though, surely? Most modern bikes, with decent tyres on, can perform really well if ridden by someone who knows what they're doing and has the b*ll*cks to push it to the limit. Unless it's some top-heavy tourer or cruiser - Harleys can't corner...

Mines a heavy tourer but hardly top heavy (until I get on that is :D)

Lol the AA and police can't be wrong lol

The Police had loads of problems with Pan Europeans toppling, up to the stage where they withdrew the 'bikes from service.

Why don't you consider a 2nd hand bike and TPFT insurance for a year or two to get some no-claims under your belt and save a bit of money too.

+1

Get your CBT done, then have a look round for a 2nd hand 125cc whilst getting used to riding a bike as you've never had one before.

Then do your proper bike test and get something tasty that you'd really like.
