Hi

I have a Tpower i45 motherboard and Q9550 with only 2gb of DDR2 1066 running.
The problem i am having is that the motherboard will not allow me to use all 4gb which I have. Twice now I have tried and it blows one of the sticks and I then have to return it to the retailer.
Also I cant seem to overclock it properly. Any ideas about memory issue and overclocking issue.

Thanks

Bit more info on what you have done already would be good so we can see whats up and narrow it down. Everyone at some point has had issues with memory while overclocking.

When I tired following other websites to overclock the tpower it would just fail. Tried the different bios settings also tried the dodgy softeware they give called tweaker. That was usless, sytem just kept crashing. Changed the voltages it worked upto about 3.2ghz but after that would not work again.

I had 2 sticks of DDR2 6400 running on dual channel before no problems. the DDR2 1066 will just not see 4gb and like I said it blows one stick. I got a titan Fenrir cooling the CPU and an OCZ 780w PSU.

All voltages are on auto right now. Hope this helps.

I'd try setting the voltages manually for a start, it might be overvolting the memory causing it to blow.

Never use application OC'ing utilities, BIOS should be your main point of call. I only use them once i can't boot any higher into the OS then use said applications to push further within Windows just for benchmarking.

If you have it all on Auto, that will be your problem. Set the memory on 2.1v. Set the timings the RAM are stated for, either 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15.

Your cooling and PSU are fine.

It may well be a motherboard issue, but lets narrow it all down first. I've had a Biostar board before - great OC'er, but can be very fickle with overclocking when pushed far.

It does seem strange you can only go as far as 3.2. Some people go to 4 on those chips.

When OC'ing, you have lowered the memory strap right?

Hi

Managed to sort it. Just reset everything first then upped some voltages and the thing started to get kicking got it to 3.4 and left it at that. Funny thing is though, now i am getting rid of all of it as I have just got me an i7 kit LOL.

Thanks guys.
