View Full Version : Pah, quad core is for noobs!

Amazingly this thing only uses 62w, so wouldn't need extreme cooling...

Aria are selling them for £129.99!
/dream mode off/
Damn! :D
Very nice, I wonder if that's some of their first samples at 45 or 32nm process...looks like Core 2 Duo is just the tip of the iceberg :)
80 cores....droolworthy.
OMFG that CPU would be godly !
What will intel come up with next?
1000 Cores lol
Well, if they've got 80 cores up and running (not sure what size the chip itself is though!) then surely 8, 16, and 32's will be fairly commonplace in 10 years or less....
Damn them, I'm about to upgrade to my first dual-core and they've made me green eyed again
I remember seeing this late last year when Intel first announced it, but they didnt have any power stats then. 62w is extremely impressive!! And 80x3.16Ghz would be awesome! :D
Heres the other story - Intel predicting it will be a reality within 5 years!!

lol
According to Moores law they will be on 16 cores in 4 years at a reasonable price.
Either that or stick to 4 cores and have 4 times the power.
With data transfer at over 1 terabyte a second, how would you find any RAM or hard-drives to keep up? What do they use on those things?

Yeah, they are up to 64gb (or maybe more) in sata drive form. Would be awesome to see that in raid0! It'll set you back £10k/drive tho ;)
sweet - solid state hard drives. I'd be able to take my PC out for a jog and not worry about the HD skipping...
I'm starting to feel old with all these technological announcements. I saw a programme on the TV recently that really drove this home. Apparently we are now in a world where we have peopel with no concept of the world without the Internet or mobile phones!

And a world where people believe what they see and hear on telly [/quote:d5f409813e]
Nah, this is logical - take anyone under the age of 16, for instance. They would have been born in 1990. They would have been aware of the world outside of their home from about 6 years old (I know this is a fairly crass generalisation), making that about 1996, by which time there was an internet and mobile phones were starting to proliferate culture.
Not that I have anything against youngsters (they're our future, don't ya know). It's just weird thinking that they are growing up in a 'connected' world whereas I grew up in a world where I can remember the remote control for the TV being attached to the TV by a wire.
Ahem, it seems to be one of those afternoons. I shouldn't have had so much coffee...

That in itself is a scary sentence!

You're telling me! I went out to a club for the first time in ages the other weekend and was amazed at how young everyone looked. Then my mate pointed out how old we must have looked to them! But it was fun pointing at their appalling sense of fashion. I mean, EMO? That sounds like it should be something controlled by Rod Hull...
But yes, back from the thread hijack... it was only a few years ago that I remember talking to friends about how awesome it would be to use electricity cables in the house as a network connection. But we couldn't imagine anything better than Base-T LAN and a super fast 56K modem with blistering 5kb/s download speed.
