I finally got around to moving on from AMD and getting an i7. Nothing wrong with AMD (great chips), just need a fresh challenge!

Got to give a big thank you to Gigabyte for sending along their top flagship X58 board; the X58A-UD7 which can be found here (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Intel+Socket+1366/Gigabyte+GA-X58A-UD7+Intel+X58+%28Socket+1366%29+DDR3+Motherboard+? productId=38991).

I picked up a nice i7 930 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+i7/Intel+Core+i7+930+2.80Ghz+%28Bloomfield%29+%28Sock et+LGA1366%29+Processor+-+Retail+?productId=39630) from work and had the whole weekend to bench :thumb:

All the results were on air cooling using a Cogage Arrow w/ a San Ace 120x38mm H1011 fan.

Stable clocks:

I looked to see how far i can push my setup stable on air cooling.

First - 4.3Ghz w/ 1.4v

Next i pushed it and found the top end stable on air for me was 4.4Ghz w/ 1.45v!

Awesome :thumb:

Now to the benchmarking..

Since i benchmark for Bench Tec UK, i'm in need of more points, so i pushed as far as the chip could let me on air cooling for all the main benchmarks.

SPI 1M - 4.75Ghz SPI run!

PI Fast - 4.72Ghz

wPrime 32m - 4.55Ghz

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/4427/wp32.th.png (http://img268.imageshack.us/i/wp32.png/)

wPrime 1024m - 4.41Ghz

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5568/wp1024.th.png (http://img10.imageshack.us/i/wp1024.png/)

SPI 32M -4.62Ghz

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/1183/spi32.th.png (http://img11.imageshack.us/i/spi32.png/)

PC Mark 05 - 4.41Ghz

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/6108/pcm05.th.png (http://img23.imageshack.us/i/pcm05.png/)
**Bare in mind only just a 1GB GTS 250

PC Mark Vantage - 4.41Ghz

http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/1733/pcmvan.th.png (http://img94.imageshack.us/i/pcmvan.png/)
**Bare in mind only just a 1GB GTS 250

Si Sandra - 4.41Ghz

Thats all for now! I did all the 3DMarks too, but their not really that impresive with my poor GTS 250 lol.

4.75Ghz benching on air i'm very happy with, esp 4.4Ghz stable! Looking to see what i can get stable/bench on watercooling later in the week :thumb:

Me likes 1366 lots! :chuckle:

Side note - I've noticed that Core #3 runs a good 5/6.C cooler on load than the other 3. Does anyone have the same issue? I've mounted the cooler 4 times and i still get the same outcome. It might be just the CPU or heatsink needs a good lapping, but just checking to make sure.

Thats normal mate, how hot are the cores?? secondly you recomend the board?? thinking of ditching the p6t deluxe v2.

Never goes past 80.C but i'd like to get the WC'ing on their. Never used the P6T so i can't really comment - ask ScottiB mate.

The board is great though. Nearly had 1.375v stable for 4.3Ghz but OCCT crashed after 50mins!!

Sounds like a reasonable chip! I can sit 1.280 for 24/7 4.3ghz under water on a 920 so that 930 looks to be of similar ability meaning you could be looking at an extra 250mhz or ao out of it when compared to what mine hits under water. 4.956ghz if the target mate, I've got every faith!

Its fine, although I'm using an i7 860 i get the same issue. Just out of interest what cooler you using ?

Does it beat the AMD as far as you are concerned?

Fair enough. Werid like, but fair enough.

Cogage Arrow :)

For benching on air all the way to 4.7Ghz i'm very please. AMD on air, your looking at 4.2ish tops. Higher stable OC's too :thumb:

AMD is cheap. Always lots(!) of CPU's to bench, whereas on 1366, it's (1) not cheap, and (2) i don't have much chips to bench apart from the 920 DO. The rest are just too expensive!

Performance wise, obviosuly, but AMD is just great bang for buck both CPUs and boards.

Nice 1 dude :D

Looks like you got a good chip there, should see some really nice(r) results if you get chance to put it under the cold stuff :)

Gaz!

Very nice for a free board!
