View Full Version : Broken or simply me being stupid?
Hey everyone,
I recently got a sapphire 5750 1gb for my birthday, but im having a few potential problems with it, i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if its me doing something wrong or whether its broken!
firstly, whenever i turned on my pc with the old gpu it immediately made 1 bios beep then started to load up, which id expect with all pcs, but i installed my new gpu, and it stays dormant for about 10-20 seconds THEN does the bios beep and begins to load up...
ive updated drivers and checked it was fitted properly etc, nothing seems to be wrong with it, as im using it right now and all seems dandy!
secondly, whenever scrolling for example or loading up a game (i tried battleforge to see what it was like) it seems to get some lines across the screen when loading, like tearing... its completely fine when i play battleforge, its just when i was loading it, and now when i scroll down, which im just a bit concerned about.
I was wondering whether anyone had any ideas, the first is more worrying to me, the second just seems like its not pushed in and some connectors may not be quite touching, but as far as i can see its all good...
thanks in advance!

Hi Da1e.
I don't think its broken but I suspect its probably a driver issue.
Can you detail the procedure you used to update your ATI drivers?
and the hang at post sounds like a bios issue, check if newer versions have fixed this and then you can flash to it.
im hoping its something like that, it would be a massive relief!
well, basically what i did when i got the card was physically took out the card, put the new one in, went on the ATI site, found the latest versions of the drivers and installed. i didnt uninstall CCC or previous drivers. i also then tried the drivers on the CD, so right now im not sure where i stand with drivers, is there something else i should be doing?
and marsey, is there any quick / easy way to do this?
something else weird that i just noticed...when on the desktop or any screen like that, when i scroll off the screen to the right my mouse completely disappears, instead of hitting a barrier like it does with the other 3 sides, which its never done before...
That seems like the drivers think there's another screen connected if it completely disappears.
I can just see my mouse pointer when I move it over to the far right of my screen but it doesn't completely disappear.
Check in CC to see if the displays are set up correctly.

I think that's your problem right there... You should always completely uninstall old drivers before installing new ones.
I think you're gonna have to uninstall CCC and drivers, try driver sweeper to clean out any remnants and install clean.
The tearing on the screen kinda sounds like a vsync issue... if vsync is off and you see that, turn it back on again.,, But given the state of the driver install, it cold be anything.
good news, the tearing is gone :D it was either something in desktop display settings like 'extend these displays' which i turned off, or the re-installation of drivers :)
but thats good, it means it isnt broken :)
and CC works fine now, able to alter fan speeds etc marvellously :)
but now is the question of how to stop the massive hang upon startup, how do i update my bios and where do i get the update from?
my mobo is a p5n-e sli and according to cpu-z im running bios revision 0703.
any ideas? :)
P5N-E SLI BIOS 1406
Fix - it takes long time to show up on screen with certain AMD graphic card when booting up the system.

right, ive found the right bios from the site AND it explained the hang on some amd cards so i know now what i need to do :)
ive got a link from the asus site about how to upgrade my bios, but it also strongly recommends backing up your bios first, which it doesnt explain.
does anyone know an easy step by step guide or would be willing to explain how to backup and upgrade your bios? that would be fantastic! thanks!
You're in luck :)
