View Full Version : Wireless or cord optical mouse?
Hi, I just got my first laptop, 12.1" N280 Atom.
I was wondering what you laptop users prefer to use when there's space, a wireless or wired mice? (or just make-do with the trackpad)
I will use the trackpad when space is tight but prefer a normal mice when there's plenty of room and a flat surface.
I'm leaning towards a wireless unit, but I can see the inconvenience of losing the USB dongle and flat batteries.
Wireless for me, but try to get rechargeables... if you use your mouse a lot batteries tend to not last long.
I hate trackballs with a passion!

My sister has a Asus netbook and she perfers to use a small mouse instead of the trackpad. In fact she got one of these:

Its got a pretty small receiver, so it was perfect for her netbook.
I personally use the trackpad on mine.
CMDR Furries, I like the look of that logitech! Price is a bit steep for a mice though. I think I'll get a wireless with micro dongle version (probably try fleabay first).
*I wish Aria did royal mail postage, then I wouldn't have to look for multi items and try consolidate for a better deal on shipping cost.
Most people tend to opt for wireless mice and keyboards I think these days. Though they do have a tendency to run out of battery right when you're in the middle of something!
I use the trackpad with mine but it came with a micro wireless mouse that i've never used.
I use a wired mouse with my netbook. Hate trackpads with a vengeance!
As for normal pc use, do people favour wired or wirless input devices? I use wired but was thinking of moving over to wireless keyboard and mouse.
wired all the way, the wire will never restrict you on a laptop and it will never run out of battery :)

wireless mouse, wired keyboard, on my bedroom pc i have both wireless though so i can lounge on my bed :)
wired for me as well, and i have had both. also get a better response from wired unless you spend loads on wireless
The plus-side of a wireless set is that it runs from an independent power source, which means you're laptop isn't getting its battery drained simply by having a mouse and keyboard plugged in. The receiver uses a little bit of power, but it's much less than a wired mouse would.
That was you're getting the benefits of a mouse and keyboard without your laptop's battery life being compromised. I'm not sure exactly how good the batteries are in those ultra-compact laptops, but it could mean an extra 5-10 minutes on each charge if you're using a wireless set.
