Cheapest? Best quality? Same brand of garage everytime? Do you use fuel cleaners (red-x etx), Do you use a privaledge card?

The wife gets an email listing the cheapest place in our area.
Then we go to the one that's not out of the way, no point travelling 10 miles to save 50p on a tank
There's only 3 garages in my town, and one of them is about to close down.. Tescos, BP and Jet. The BP one is going. Its WAY more expensive than the others though. The premium fuel at Jet and Tescos is cheaper than the BP standard one!
For me its Tescos mostly though.. Cheapest, makes the car go. Every so often I'll stop off at shell or something and stick in a tank of the good quality stuff in though, to give everything a good clean out :)
Hi there
My cars get the best, even the 306. :D
Petrol = Shell Vpower
Diesel = Vpower again!
I use 99 octane as the engine is mapped for it so Shell Vpower or Tesco Super.
Sainsburys... £1.11 per litre and there's a 5p per litre off voucher if you buy groceries £50 or more. Worth it for me as a refill costs around £60 and I refill at least once a week.
Plus my local Sainsburys have hand-washing guys in their car park, do a great job on my Celica for just a fiver.

Every make of car is different, my step father swears his BMW goes best on Texaco fuel, but my Toyota likes Esso.
Pity the nearest Esso station is 30 miles away!! So it gets the cheap stuff from Morrisons!!
Didn't they do some thing on Top Gear where they tried all these different petrol things; non of them did any better than the apparent 'cheapo' normal stuff....
All this stuff is, is petrol with more branch chained structures so they burn at a lower temperature and this give a bigger BANG....nothing else though :P

Will, I don't put petrol in my car EVER
On my old 306, it was biodiesel from a place off Manchester rd, It ran better and smoked less on bio, just smelt a little off.
The civics not a bio diesel friendly car, so usually shell, as theyre the same price as tescos around here.
Shell VPower Diesel every time

Hi there
Seriously for once this stuff really makes a difference.
If I run the 306 even on bog standard Shell Diesel or any other the car get thats tractor/diesel vibration when you drop sub 1200rpm, but with vpower diesel its just silky smooth all the time, really smoothened it out. :)
Gibbo - do you reckon it would make a difference on any engine, or just specific ones that it happens to work well with?

HI there
Well mine is a Peugeot 2.0HDI I believe this engine is used in many Peugeots, Citreons and possibly some others.
But ScottiB also found the same on his Honda 2.2CDTI Type S, again much smoother and thats a much newer more modern engine.
It also makes diesels quieter as well plus you get the cleaning benefits which is a must considering how dirty diesel engines are.
Seriously try a couple of tanks, see how it effects drivability and MPG then weigh up if its worth it or not. :)
But for the sake of a few pence here and there and possibly extending life of my engine I'd pay the extra pence all the time. :)
Might have to have the Alfa flushed and try some better fuel than the usual BP stuff at the local garage.
Rumors started today that the ex isnt going Scotland after all so may keep the Alfa :D

I usually take my Focus to the local Esso station, as its the closest to my house :)
I just put regular BP unleaded into mine, occasionally a run a tank of Optimax through but I'm not convinced it does much, can't hurt though I guess.
Mine's a diesel Polo, use Tesco or Shell, can't tell any difference between them (buying the cheapest grade)
How much extra is the Shell V power diesel on average VS the Shell Extra Diesel?
I normally use Shell Extra and chuck in some Redex Diesel every other tank. Thrash it at most opportunities.
Did a bit of redlining last night and left the car behind in a cloud of soot :woot::woot::woot:
Subsequent redlines were cleaner than the countryside!
Service due in 500 miles so be good to get new oil in, with pollen/fuel/oil filters changed.

Hi there
From what I've read people say just using Vpower Diesel works out better than using cheaper diesel with additives.
So if I were you try Vpower for next couple of fill ups and report back, see what you think. :)

Just put a full tank of Shell Extra in so once thats gone - i'll be giving the Vpower a try.
Off the top of my head I think the Vpower is around 129p per litre?
I paid 111p for the extra last night.
Got four new tyres on last weekend - so only other expense coming up is the service. Local VW mechanic charges me £120 for a full service.
New Tyres are far more responsive than the worn down pirellis, be nice to see if the vpower makes a difference.
I buy my fuel at the Red Lion and its about £2.10

I was on a motoring forum a while ago and a similar subject (as you would expect) came up on there.
The majority claimed using the high octane 99 stuff does absolutely nothing beneficial unless the car/engine is designed to use it properly. So most normal cars fords, peugeots, fiats etc etc you're best off with normal fuel.
AND AS FOR FUEL ADDITIVES!!!!! OMG, pretty much 99% of all keen motorists said stay well clear! reports of increased emissions, lower mpg, smoke, smells, engine rattles, allsorts really.

HI there
Additives indeed can be bad, especially so-called injector cleaners etc. can do more harm than good.
Thats why for my diesel I use the Vpower diesel, it promotes smoother running and helps keep the engine cleaner than traditional cheaper options resulting in peak power and improved MPG along with quieter smoother running. :)
Petrol Station.
Haha, well said.
I just go to my local Asda as they tend to be the cheapest?
Although i thought fuel is fuel! all the same to me.
Car is a Toyota Corolla VVT-I 02 plate
I use http://www.petrolprices.com/ and go shopping or get it as I pass.
I get mine from my local Morrisons, the cheaper the better I say :D
