Hi all,
Another issue I am having with my new PC that came this morning, just noticed that it a IDE drive instead of SATA.... :(
Here is the drive I ordered:
https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/IDE/+400GB+Seagate+ST3400620A+16M?productId=24536
Now unless I am going insane, that says: Interface: SATA?
But the one I have is IDE?
Help!?!?!?!?!
If you look at the URL of the drive it is correctly listed in the IDE section...someone must have goofed when writing up the specs. I find the best thing to do (after being in your situation before) is to copy the drive and serial number into Google and check it's specs against other vendors or (even better) the manufacturer's own website.

Good point, but that doesnt really help very much when it's already installed in a new PC :(
Turn it off and unplug it and unscrew it from the tower, it's easier enough.
This may help too, http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/upgrade/1279246.html

Thats also no problem, I wouldnt have a ny trouble removing it, its just the fact that I would now have to send it back to ARIA and to be honest I don't real feel much like even trying something like that with the way things are...my entire transaction has been one HUGE disaster, I honestly don't think much more could have gone wrong.
However, where do I stand with this? Would aria allow me to remove the drive and send it back for a replacement without voiding warranty, after all this is basically their fault?
I think he means that its not going to help much, because he already got the order with an IDE HD instead of the SATA one he ordered.
And the drive model number listed on aria is definately an IDE one, so its in the correct section, but as Cheule says, there is a mistake in the description.

OK guys, how much of a disadvantage would it be having an IDE drive as a main hardrive? I am guessing it will slow things down considerably?
Pretty annoying really, can't believe I ended up with that :( I know it's partly my own fault but having it listed as a SATA drive in the listing is really really annoying :(
Think I am gonna have to think about either sending it back, if they will let me, or buy a secong drive which is SATA and use the IDE drive for extra storage...I dunno, advice please guys?
Cheers, Craig
Hi,
SATA are abit faster than IDE but not by much to be honest.
Im sure if you contact CS and tell them what has happened and that there has been a mix up on both sides im sure they will sort it out for you.

OK, might well do that...not sure yet...have so many others issues to get through first :(
Bear in mind that the IDE/133 interface was never fully utilized, today's drives still can't saturate it. Never mind SATA2.
The reason I'm going for SATA2 drives from now on though is the cables are so much smaller. Not to mention prettier on the eye :)

Yeah, my main issue now is not so much with speed exactly, but the fact that my DVD-RW drive and HDD are connected to the same IDE port, so its kinda slowing things down a bit when using both at the same time.
Considering using an adapter to put the IDE HDD on a SATA port..thoughts?
Cheers, Craig
