would it be worth changing my agp Galaxy 6600GT (with ddr3) to a pci-e Xpertvision 7600GT (ddr3)

Would there be much difference..I really want the 8800 card  but cannot afford that right now plus the 7600GT is less than £70

The 6600GT runs at core 525mhz and memory 1050mhz

The 7600GT runs at core 560mhz and memory 1400mhz

more to it than raw clock speed, i have one (7600gt) in one of my pc's and its a great little card it would be quite a jump in performance over the 6600gt.

Thats the compare url for my 3d06 benchmark check that out against yours if you have run it or other 6600gt's on the results browser. My 7600gt is overclocked too and running the speeds in my sig.

The 7600gt will outpace the 6600gt by about 20% in most circumstances, also it supports the newer shader model 3 etc, however both have a 128-bit memory interface in common, so if you are playing at higher res's then you're going to encounter some slowdown in the most demanding games.

Still, a steal for the price :)

You could pick up a 7800GT on the E of Bay for about £100 give or take :)

found a couple of 7800GT's on the bay for £75 or less but I've got to decide on either getting the first one that ends and hope nobody else bids lol which would be £75 or try and get the one tomorrow afternoon for £60 or wait 2 days and get the one for £55 that is if I'm the only bidder

:? :?

Did you get one in the end?

nope I've talked myself into getting a 8800 GTS 320mb or the 640 if I resist temptation and save bit more

at the moment I still haven't bought one but I've pushed my ickle 6600GT a bit further and she is totally stable at this setup 8)

How well does it run BF2? And what settings do you use? I remember BF2 not running particularly well on my old 6600GT :S

it ran fine @1024 with med to high settings even on Strike at Karkand even BF2142 runs fine

I used to have to run mine at 1024*768 with settings to medium/low, and in big fights the frames would drop to about 20fps, something like that. And my 6600GT came pre-overclocked too. Weird.

not tried this setup with BF but if it ran fine at Galaxy's original settings it should be better with this lol..I've tested this on Farcry, Race, GTR2 and AA

if it is then hopefully there will be some stock left on Monday so I can call in

I would say it depends on what rsolution you will be running, if quite high as in above 1600x1400+ or whatever then no save your pennies and get the 640mb version. if running at more normal resolutions ie 1280x1024 then yes go for it.

I never really go higher than 1280 so looks like I will get 1 if it's still in stock Monday

both really as I'm using a 6600GT at the moment.. I would get a 7 series card but I know that would only last me less than a year..so getting 8800 will last me 2 years just like my current 6600

Plus I want to play Crysis
