View Full Version : Dual/Triple Monitor Setup
Afternoon All - Long time reader first time poster!
I trade the markets at home and would finally like to get a nice dual/triple monitor setup on the go (plus do like the odd gaming experience!).
My requirements are as follows:
Need to be able to run 2 to 3 monitors (2 initially as not sure have the desk space in the immediate time to accommodate 3!) - top size at the moment of 19 inches.
Need the following:
Case, PSU, CPU, GFX Card (s), HDD (s)- was looking at small SSD for boot, maz space needed from data of about 320gb, RAM, Mobo, Optical Drive (only really need 1 dvd writer), Monitors (min 2 pref the same), OS, Keyboard
Think that's about everything.
Budget is between £1100 to £1400.
Cheers!

That graphics card might be overkill....I didn't know what type of games you play/which so I thought I should sort you out with the best :D

monitors aside, you may want to google ErgoTron to mount/stack your monitors - 1&1, 2&2 etc

Of the half dozen or so graphics card I have had in recent years, all could hack the dual-monitor scenario. And these cost 20 per cent of that suggested to you.
If gaming is just some of the action, the trading screens will work with just about anything.
Then again, I have never seen the point of expensive graphics cards for day-to-day computing.

Definately. I have one of these Ergotron stands with a couple of 22" monitors on it - http://www.ergotron.com/Products/tabid/65/PRDID/241/language/en-US/default.aspx
Its much better than having two monitors standing on a desk and takes up less room. You just need monitors with VESA mounts - I used these Phillips 220SW9's (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Displays/Monitors/TFT+20+-+23/22%22+Philips+220SW9FB+widescreen+monitor+with+DVI +?productId=37745) which were a good price, and nice quality.
This may help if you need alot of desk space.

Cheers for the help guys.
Couple more questions.
Since gaming isn't anything hardcore or will be played on super monitors worth downgrading the gfx card to a 5770? (Like the eyefinity feature personally of the 5000 series).
Plus if going with 64bit windows I woudln't mind going for Pro windows 7 - so maybe upgrading to the i7 920 with triple channel ram?
Been a long time since I did my last build (about 8 years!) so all this advice is really appreciated.

You really shouldn't link me to things like that, now I want a 3 monitor setup with me forthcoming 5850.

The biggest arrays I have seen were double decker sets of three display. Six in all.
But that was a bunch of traders watching an array of what looked like spreadsheets.
These were, of course, the people who brought the economy to its knees.
So, be careful.
I trade Forex as a hobby and I must say a 22" (minimum) widescreen is a almost a must for me.
I've got two 19" (4:3) at work and they just don't get big enough graphs on them. Now my 26" at home....love the views.
26" main and two 19" for news/misc graphcs would be a good setup.
