Just thought I'd start a 5830 information/news thread as I am waiting for this card to come out.

Anyone know anything on the current situation?

I've seen it for sale for 169 quid shipped....not available yet though of course.

190 is pretty hefty when the 5850 is merely £10-20 more.. surely that should go to a more realistic £160-170 soon after launch

Exactly. I can't see them keeping it at that price point for long at all. I know marketing-wise it's a clever way to get people to say "Well, for £20 extra, I'll just go for the 5850" but it wouldn't be worth development/marketing costs and realistically I'd expect a price of 170 as standard before too long at all.

aparently amazon had them listed for 170 but it got pulled.

I'm in the same boat about the 5850/5870

Waiting on a price check from Gibbo to see which I go for :D

These cards are delayed because of Chinese NY.

i read they are waiting till cebit?

they are in no rush as it will only harm their own sales to bring it out early.

it's going to be over priced anyway, 5850 all the way :)

Pegged to hit the market at about $250, the HD 5830 was viewed by some as a bargain alternative to the HD 5850. Perhaps a little less powerful, but still a big bang for your graphics card buck. Unfortunately, if the specs posted at IT168.com (http://vga.it168.com/a2010/0222/852/000000852052.shtml) bear up, the HD 5830 isn’t going to just a little less powerful. According to these specs, hardware-wise the HD 5830 will have 320 fewer stream processors, 16 fewer texture units, and 16 fewer ROPs than its bigger sibling. That translates to a performance hit of 7.4 GTexels/s, 10.4 Gpixel/s, and 41.6 GSample/s. All this despite a core clock speed of 800MHz

Looks like every article since early this morning is referring to -> http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fvga.it168.com%2Fa2010%2F0222%2F852% 2F000000852052.shtml&sl=zh-CN&tl=en

The reviews are out... everywhere. I think the general consensus is that it's a tad overpriced considering that on raw performance it's beaten by a 4890 yet costs more.

On a global average, the 5830 sits about half-way between a 4890 and a 4870, or if you prefer is about 8% slower than a GTX 275 and 20% slower than a 5850. The latter is particularly interesting since it comes so close to the 5850 even though it only has 55% of the ROP capacity; clearly the hit to the ROPs didn’t hurt too badly.
At any rate, I had been expecting something that would consistently be to the north of the 4890 in performance, but the performance is what it is – there’s no bad card, only a poorly priced card.
....
....
This brings up the other elephant in the room: today’s paper launch. Paper launches should by all means have died last year, but their ghost apparently continues to live on. If in fact no 5830s make it to retailers in time for today’s launch, then the card should not have been launched today – it’s as simple as that.
So it's actually not available to the public yet for probably another week.

doesnt look like theres much point to it really. if it was going to replace the 5770 series and cost about as much then it would be a nice adition to ati's lineup but as it stands its pretty pointless

Agreed... but then is this a way for Ati to recycle failed 5850/70's?

I'm guessing they'll re-evaluate the price.

HI there

Pricing is shockingly bad on this at the moment.

Our trade buy in cost is like only £10-£15 cheaper than a 5850, really am not seeing the point in even listing these at the moment with them coming so close to the 5850 in pricing. Not helped by the falling exchange rate of course.

shockingly bad noone in their right mind would pay anywhere near that much.

Hi there

Have informed AMD.

Told them the end-user needs to paying in the region of £149 +VAT with 5770 at £100 +VAT and 5850 at £200 +VAT.

So £150 +VAT would be ideal for this, yet based on pricing I am seeing current price will be about £175 +VAT, which is too close to 5850 pricing.

Lets see if they can do anything, but I doubt £149 will be reached soon.

we can only hope, i see some companies are getting them in stock regardless knowing certain people will order them anyway because they dont know any better.

like your old company... seems they raised the prices of 5850's to make the 5830 look more attractive though lol

Hi there

Well I've got nearly all my 5850's in stock and I've lowered my pricing or kept it where it was. The 5850 is the better deal due to extra streamline processors and the far far superior cooler. :)

Hi there

OK I've been kicking up a fuss, so far I reckon I could now sell these cards for circa £175 with VAT. Maybe £170 at a push!

However its still not good enough really, so will carry on pushing, might have to leave it for a few days and if no sales happen elsewhere in the channel AMD will be forced to do a global price drop which I believe is what is required.

Yes the exchange rate has not helped, but thats irrelevent this card fits between 5770 and 5850 yet its price does not irrelevent of the exchange rate.

So I shall keep fighting for our customers and when I succeed in getting the price we all want to pay I shall start listing this card. :)

nice gibbo!! <£170 would be ideal imo £160 would be sweet i think £170 is good for a launch price but if theyre keeping it over that then its not really worth it.. i think some of the reviews i have seen are a bit mixed maybe due to drivers.. it seems like it should be on par with GTX275 nearing GTX285 performance and even vantage scores place it higher than GTX285 but real benchmarks seem to have it set somewhere between 5770-4890

RawZ

£160 would be worth it IMO, or buy a cheap 5850 from us ;)

To be honest, I think if I was looking at even 170 for these if Gibbo worked his magic, I would just pay the bit extra to get the 5850. Poor show so far, hope these drop quickly.

from what i have seen the drop in rop count is what cripples this cards performance in the games that use them heavily, in games that dont they do very well.

5830 are most probably failed 5850 or 5870 which did not made the grade so is it likely that a hack can allow the lucky few to unlock things and get near 5850 performance?
