Whats the difference between using a 4 pin ATX and an 8 pin EPS connection to the motherboard and which should I use.


ASUS P5N32E motherboard & S12 600w psu being used.


Never been faced with a choice before lol.


Also Do you conenct both the new sata power conenctors and the old style 4 pin or just the new style as i have a cable and socket fore both.... Confused.

If its on the motherboard, fit it (just in case).

Sata drives use the sata power connector, ide drives use \"old 4 pin connector\" as you put it.

Sounds like you are describing a drive with both or is it just an adapter cable?

The motherboard comes with an 8 pit slot with a cover over 4 pins so you have the option of either ATX or EPS - So i can use either 4 or 8, was just wondering which is better or if it matters.



As for the hard drives, yes they have both, so i guess ill just use the sata power connectors as i suspected.

As far as I know, 8-pin is for extremely power hungry cpu's such as high end P4's that have TDP ratings of like 145W.

My system runs great with the 4-pin plugged in. In the manual, it said 8-pin recommended but you can use 4-pin if you want, so they are just covering themselves because they don't know what CPU you're going to be putting in there. It's definitely not clear though. Imo, it should be actually be explained in he manual what the use is. :roll:

well ill definetly use 8pin i think seeing as i have 5 fans connected to the motherboard drawing a bit of power.
