View Full Version : Time has come for a new build.. ideas and advice please :)
watcha
right, want to build up a completely new system starting from scratch. the last setup you all helped me build is being passed on to family so quite looking forward to getting the ball rolling again
so basically i want the pc to be a fast processor with high 3dfx capabilities and able to multi task at at reasonably high level aswell as being good on running any game at as close to full res as possible. budget is about £1100 all in. i know that isn't massive for what i am asking it to be able to do but thats why i need all your help again to get all the right components. Hit me with some ideas so i can start ordering up :thumb:
p.s i also need new keyboard, mouse and printer but they aren't included in the above budget they will be extras on top of it.:) any suggestions?
thanks, look forward to hearing your replies, any questions just ask i will reply asap
cheers

Wait for the i7 930 at the end of the month I reckon. 5850 gfx seem to be best price to performance ratio atm, and a gigabyte UD5 motherboard to allow you to crossfire/sli at a later date perhaps. A decent set of triple channel ram (corsair xms3 should do nicely), a good 600w PSU and quiet case /done :)
hey bren, long time no see :) guess that means the pc has been working fine then :P
^^i agree, maybe swap the xms for some patriot 5s, throw in a couple of 500gb f3s in raid or a 1tb f3 and a ssd if your feeling flush and a xonar sound card and i think your done :D if you cant wait the i7 920 is on offer atm.
if you want to do any clocking then you will be looking at the venomous x / noctua d14 or the megahalems depending on what case you go with as they are big :D
case wise you should look at the haf, the new cm 690 advanced or the fractal as they all have almost the same chassis which is good or if you want to stick with antec then maybe the 1200?

lovely jubbly mate thanks for the help. so are the ati graphics cards much better than the nvidia option nowadays?

watcha mate :P
the old build has been fantastic, not one problem. thats why i thought i'd get back on here for more advice rather than blindly buying the bits and pieces needed.
i reckon i'll hold out a couple more weeks if the i7 930 is gonna be on offer as i can be buying other stuff in the mean time.
what happened to the sound blaster cards like i bought before? is a xonar just as good?
i dont want to go mad with the budget for the case but will i be ok air cooling rather than water cooling if i use the antec1200? i will be over clocking slightly i should imagine as enjoyed it so much before when being talked through it on my last build, made a hell of alot of difference.
cheers so far for the help people, appreciate it :thumb:
any more news on when the i7 930 comes on offer like you both mentioned in earier posts?
also marsey do you agree with maidmaniac about going for ati 5850 gfz card? if yes, which exact one?
thanks once again for help

i7 930 on the 1st of March. Case wise i would definitely say go for a Silverstone, Lian-Li or similar. Aluminium cases are a lot higher quality and make the build a lot easier!
right, have decided on virtually everything now. here's the list, let me know any ideas or thoughts about the build..........
Intel Core i7 930
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58
OCZ StealthXStream 700W Silent SLI/Crossfire
Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 6GB
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB
Samsung HD322HJ SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II
ThermalRight VenomousX CPU Cooler
Noctua NF-P12 and Noctua NF-P14 FLX
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1
not sure on what case to go for this time so links to a few good ones would be handy.
cheers

I would pay the extra £9 and swop the Samsung F1 320gb for a F3 500gb.
Also the HD5850 will probably be a good £30 cheaper in 10 days time.
