Without paying much attention to my old motehrboard, i bought a zalman cnps 8700 nt cpu cooler, which is all pretty and everything, except it has a 4 pin pwm connection, whereas my old board has a 3-pin cpu fan header.

Ive had a look around the intraweb and seem to be going in circles so i thought id ask here for a solution to control the fan speed.

Strangely, tho the existing header is 3 pin, the bios apparently allows control over cpu PWM, very odd, unless i was just really tired after a long day and used the power of my imagination to 'see' what i wanted to see.

I have it plugged up and it runs full whack which is too loud, so i want to gain some control over that.

Fan mate 2 has enclosed connectors so i cant jack into that, suggestions please :)

might sound daft but are you 100% that you found the right fan header for the cpu?

just asking as you say you are tired :o

have a look and see if you can set it so the bios uses voltage to change the fan speed.

hehe yes, its the right header :D

Im looking around now for a suitable 4 fan controller which displays RPM but not Temps and can handle at least one 4-pin pwm fan.

Does anyone know if its possible to link the cpu/mainboard temperature sensors in the bios to a 3rd party fan controller that displays temps ?

I dont see the point in temp sensor leads, they just tell you the temp of where they are located and not inside, say, the cpu.

Failing that, does anyone know o a fan controller with a display that shows rpm only and not temps ?
