im currently using a P5N-E SLI mobo,
with the default bios,

i was wondering, is it really worth updating them?
what actually changes? performance?
im willing to update them, but only if its actually worth doing :)

thanks :)

depends what your doing tbh m8 i used to have that board and dif bios revision didnt do much for stock performance other than add cpu/ram support. if your overclocking with it tho having the right revision for your cpu was what mattered. 04xx was the one for 64nm duos 06xx was the one for quads and 09xx was the one for 45nm duos.

what would happen if i tried to o/c with my current 07XX bios (default) and i have an intel quad?

you will do ok but may get a few more mhz with 0608.

have you done any clocking with it yet?

they dont often go much above 3ghz with a quad as it cant throw out enough juice to keep them stable.

nah, my GPU is only a 1800xl so at the moment thats bottlenecking my performance SERIOUSLY, so o/c-ing my cpu seems pointless. i should be getting a 5770 this month though, so my performance should go way up :)

a faster cpu will get more out of your/any gpu tbh tho :thumb:

i dont personally feel the need to upgrade my intel quad core @ 2.4 :)

i could never get my quad to stay stable with that board even after following guides and trying diff bios versions, though now I'm running a Slic version of 1403 ;) {I think it's that version} now my machine thinks it is a Dell  but W7 ultimate works :D

what do you mean by it didnt run stable? what sort of problems were you having?
a while back whenever i booted up the pc it ccompletely powered out, as if the plug socket had been taken out and in, then i changed some settings in the bios, and now it seems to be running fine!
