Should be fine with that m8.

The 8800GT was known as a power drain so it should be ok.
The 5870 draws 170watts whereas the 8800GT has been known to draw up to 277+ watts under full load.

What? Are you just shouting random stuff willy-nilly round the forum? When has a graphics card EVER drawn that much? A single-slot cooled card would NEVER be able to radiate 277 watts from the GPU!

I don't even think a GTX295 draws that much.
So, if possible, got any proof of that?

And to answer the OPs question, that PSU will be fine with that.

I think you'll find a gtx280 can pull 250w and a 8800 around 200w
Do a google search for a gtx295 or 4870x2 and you will see 300w is possble.

The 8800 GT is able to bring in the lowest idle power consumption by 25 watts compared to the 8800 GTS 640MB and by 48 watts on the 8800 GTX. The load power consumption (taken during Lost Planet where we saw the highest power usage in all our tests) is also impressively low compared to the other products we tested today. At 277 watts, the 8800 GT uses 15 watts less than the 8800 GTS 640MB card that it often out performs.

The 8800 GTS drew 292 watts btw. No wonder everyone started selling 1000+ watt Power Supplies!

PMSL, that 292w is for the FULL system, an 8800gt uses a little over 100w

that's what I was thinking, meant to be working though so couldn't check it out :P I havea 9800gt and It runs on a 550W with 30A on the 12V meaning a total wattage of 360W minus CPU which is about 100W and minus about 30W for everything else (fans and drives etc) meaning there's 'only' 230W left for the GPU... I've run an 9800gt and an 8800gts 320mb on this powersupply and it's been fine (albeit I was pushing it a bit) but that means each card must drain a MAXIMUM of about 115W each

8800gts 320 is roughly 135w under 100% load and 9800gtx 150w

9800gt, not gtx, so slightly less, the same as an 8800gt i think, maybe slightly less due to the die shrink

Gt wasn't on my list :p

I would say 90-100 :)

at any rate it's far from 300W, 360W powered 2 GPUs and a CPU + drives :P

Yes, the op will be fine. That psu should handle crossfire 5870's tbh :)

anyone with that sort of money should be sending some my way :P

take pity on me, no i7s or DX11 here, pentium dual core, cheapest mobo i could find (£20) anda second hand 9800gt and 2gb faulty ram that wont even run stable at stock since i abused it too much in the past :P

They're dual GPU cards though, and they're very hot cards even with a dual slot cooler.

Precisely, that's the full system! Graphics cards don't use much more than 150-170w for a single GPU.
But you've suddenly changed your tune Tatts :s

8800gts 320 is roughly 135w under 100% load and 9800gtx 150w

Seems about right, yes. They're quite warm cards.

I have a 750w psu for my sli 8800GTs overkill baby :crash:

Of course you measure the entire system under load, otherwise what would be the point? 100w card + 50w memory doesn't equal a 150w drain on the power supply. It's not as simple as that, unfortunately.

You said a card cannot pull 277w when the gtx295 & 4870x2 will pull over 300w (you never said gual slot or dual gpu)
The 8800 i was refering to is the 8800gtx / 8800ultra which pull close to 200w so how have i changed my tune?

Using the full system for power consumption is just silly as it's very rare to find 2 systems the same

A GTS250 pulls 150W, 8800 ULTRA pulls 175W on full loading and 8800GT pulls 105W :) a GTX280 does pull 236W (horrible card) the GTX285 pulls 183W which is much better.

WOW a 5970 pulls 300W :p where as a 5870 pulls 188W (my old 4890 pulls 190W :p)
