Hello, my current spec is

Intel quad 2.4~
x1800xl 256mb
4 x 1gb 660mhz
2 x 500gb HDD
22" 1680 x 1050

Im looking to upgrade my GPU as it wasnt new when i bought it several years back, my main candidate at the moment is the 5770, as its within my price range but still high performance from what I can see. I was just wondering whether its worth paying extra for the vapor-x , and does its 'superior' fan system mean lower noise? it seems my choice is either that or the XFX from what ive heard.
will i notice any significance in performance or heat or noise from the vapor-x, or would i be better going with the cheaper? Thanks, Dale.

Its near silent. I have one and its inaudible, my case fans are louder and they run at min-1200rpm.

It depends what kind of system you have.

The main reason i'm not happy with my 5770's is the noise (there the only thing i can hear in my PC)

Other than that they are a great card for the price :thumb:

What make of 5770 have you got Tatts?
I should have made it clear in my first post I'm using the Saprhire vapor-x just in case there was any confusion.

Its OK I checked the 'Spec your rig' thread and I see you've got two Asus's.

you could get one of these http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/ATI+Radeon+5000+Series+PCI-E/Sapphire+5450+1024MB?productId=39487
look like they will be a nice little card it is also worth noteing on friday the HD 5830 is being realised priced at around £150 and on par withthe HD 4890
basicly my point is don't buy a card until next week ;)

Steve I'm wondering why your wanting to buy a 5830 when that's supposed to be par with the 4890, which isn't ALOT better than the GTX260

basicly because if i knew that the 5830 was coming on frday last month i wouldn't have brought the GTX 260 as it was just a card to use as i was waiting for the 5850s to go down in price

hey, thanks for all your replies. I cant see any specs of this model anywhere, i just checked around, any ideas? But I had previously looked at the 5670 and i couldnt justify the price, being second to nearly all near price band similar products, and as its not as powerful the dx11 hardware could potentially be made redundant as it wouldnt be able to get run it? do you happen to know the specs? :)
and about the 5830, i had also considered it, but my budget originally was going to be £60, then i realised that i wanted dx11, so my budget went up to £100 for the 5750, then i realised i may as well go for the 5770 as it seems better value and if im going to be paying that much i may as well go for the better, so my budget went to £130, then i saw the vapor-x and thought 'ooooh!', which leaves me a budget of whatever it turns out at ;) im not sure whether again i could justify bumping up my budget to 150 (i heard it was going to be more like 160 - at least for a respectable brand?) as really the only game i want to play in the foreseeable future is LOTRO when its DX11 features come out, which i would be able to do on the 5670, so i dont really need the 5770, it just means ill be set for a while ;)

Alan, arent there two types of fan for the vapor-x ? I read that somewhere - i forget where, perhaps on a review on the aria site maybe? - could you clarify which you have and which is better / whether theyre both good?

thanks a lot :)

Mine is the 860Mhz core version (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/ATI+Radeon+5000+Series+PCI-E/Sapphire+ATI+Radeon+HD+5770+Vapor-X+1024MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=39085) although I wasn't aware of any difference between the two with respect to the fans so I'm afraid I can't pass an opinion on that.

ahhh no problem. the regular 5770s are all 750mhz apart from the sapphires arent they? think thats pretty much sealed the deal....still, ill wait til next week until the 5830 comes out and see what the price is and whether the 5770 drops, which it wont ;)

its about that time of the month, im aiming to buy in february, but i just see the vapor-x go up in price, and i notice the ASUS cucore is only £121...

does anyone have any comments / feedback on the cucore?
is it quiet? is it hot? is it worth getting the vapor-x for like 20 pounds more?
thanks!
