£150 here, I think.
That was for my current card. :)
I remember buying one from **** when Gibbo was there because he sorted out an awesome price, but that was around the £100 mark. Have had quite a few cards but I think £150 is the most I've spent on one. :)
I don't think I'd ever spend over £200.
So, out with it?

Iv'e spent far too much on ATi cards :P In all seriousness i think the most ive ever spent was about £200??? when the 8800's first came out, cant remember exactly
135, for my current card, XFX GTX260 216.
Like someone said, 150 is the sweet spot really. Not so much you regret loosing it, and not so little you don't feel like you've got a decent card.

The most I've spent is £150, that was on my 1GB Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic.
I think it was around £220 for a 8800 GTS 512 :o
I think I spend about £170 on a GeForce3 made by Abit, in the first couple of weeks after they were released.... Still got it actually!

Most of you guys think the same as me though, around the 150 mark as the sweet spot.
I didn't pay for it, but the highest price card that's even been in my system for work purpose was a Quadro FX 4600, which at the time, was just over £1000 .....

I paid £200 for my current card Radeon 4870x2 second hand off ****, but it does rock!1 performs really nicely in my system, not sure i would spend £200 on a card again tho??

I spent £200 on my old X850XT when it just came out. Got it at a £100 discount due to a misprice. :thumb: After that, I've been spending less and less, £80 for my 8800GT and then, £54 for my GTS 250.
Whats great is now how low a gaming card can be had for - which will handle 99% of games out there on max/ultra settings.
A few years ago you HAD to spend £200-£300 to get this,
now for £80-£120 you can get this :D

Yep, I game at 1440x900 and my OC'ed GTS 250 handles most games (haven't tried Crysis yet :P) with everything on max with aplomb!

Very true, I got my 5770 from here on a special for £108 delivered & it plays my games on 1920x1080.
I think it was about £260 or £280 on a 8800gts 640mb.
Lasted me for nearly 3 years so I'd say I got my moneys worth.
£230 on a brand new ATI Radeon 9700 many, many years ago... was the flagship card that could beat anything else on the market at the time... and I got a very good deal on mine.
Don't think I'd spend more than £150 either these days... I don't game as much and I don't have my PC hooked up to a monitor with huge resolutions at the moment, so it's wasted. My current 9600GT can play anything I throw at it @ 1280x1024 @75hz without struggling...
Might upgrade to an ATI 5850 at some point in the future though... we'll see what prices fall too.

Suppose this comes into it aswel. If you paid alot, like in this instance but kept it for that long, I would agree you got your moneys worth. I paid around £500 (:eek::eek::eek:) for my dell 24" monitor, but I've had it for roughly 5-6 years now I think, maybe even longer and its still going strong. :)
But buying a card for £400-500 and selling 3-6 months later for £150-£200... you gotta have some serious money to be doing that regularly :chuckle:
Maybe 220. I rarely spend more than 200 on a card though - I basically wait a year or two in between and grab whatever is best for 200 quid!
The most I ever spent was £109.99 on my 4890 back in August :)
I then sold it for £100 and bought my 5870 for £117.50:D

I spent £400 on an Asus 8800GTX, and at the time thought it was a good deal because it was 10%-15% more everywhere else than where I got bought mine :eek: Don't think I'll be doing that again, not unless there is a truly incredible performance leap between GPU generations.
Just over £200 on my sapphire X800XL sold it on fleabay 2 years later for £75 and bought a x1950 pro.

All my previous cards have been second or even third hand, and were about £30 each (2 9600's)
~£540 on a 8800gtx cant remember if it was an ultra or an XXX edition
next £499 on a gf2 ultra with the 3d glasses lol
a couple of £300+ ones (x1800xt rings a bell) and then like a week later the x1900 was announced lol (that was heart breaking lol)

I can't justify anymore than £200 for a GPU when it will be overshadowed by a newer card 6-12months down the line.

I completely forgot about my 3DFX Voodoo 5 spent a small fortune on that when they came out... and shortly afterwards went out of business.
Never did really forgive nVidia for screwing over all those 3DFX users who never got any support for those cards afterwards.
I think I still have it in a box somewhere.
Yeah, the nVidia takeover/support was a poor move and shafted a lot of users, especially as the 5 series were actually pretty decent cards at the time as far as I remember..

I remember playing the original UT on max res, max settings... and several hundred bots and still getting insane FPS. :)

I made mine last 4-5 yrs before I bought a 7800gt, it lasted pretty long considering. The last thing I played on it was Warhammer: Dawn of war rts and it still coped well enough.
Nothing like skipping a few generation and getting a huge step up in gfx performance.
Just paid £170 for a 4870x2 (2nd hand delivered) is the most Ive ever paid for a gfx card!
Its not just the cost with me though, its buying cards for benching which would then make for a great upgrade to my daily PC after woulds, but I often end up killing em before I get to anything with em :/:crash:

i got a GTX 295 single pcb edition from aria a few months back for £365.49 never thourght i would spend that much on a gpu but the next one i will get will be a few gen's ahead.
jumped from a radion 9600 to a ati 4850 to the 295
got a monitor a few weeks later, payed around £300 for that

Around £100. I refuse to spend more on a single graphics card, especially as hardly any of the "Features" supported ever get used.
New cards every few months means that no developer ever has to worry about writing to get the best out of it, as they'd have to if it were a Console. They can just include some ridiculously optimistic "Minimum Spec" requirements and hope for the best.
£130 on my 8800GT OC I refuse to buy a card that's just come out. I will buy top of the mid range but that's as far as I will go. Anything over £130 I feel wont be cost effective as it will drop too fast..
that 8800 still holds a decent price now so you have a point i wonder how much the 200 series will drop when the fermis come up i have 2 275's probably going to become worthless..

I have a 8800GT too which is the most expensive card I have ever spend money on - £75! Previous to that was actually a 6600GT again at £75.
Notice both were the best bang for bucks card for their gen at the time.
Its mainly because I only have a 19' monitor and the fact I am tight :)
I only ever change card when I encounter a really good game I cannot comfortably play.

Its still the £170 for a 6800GS I bought nearly 5 years ago! I bought a second for about £30 for SLI bout 3 years ago.
Both still work great but are redundant at the mo, I've got a 8800GT which got me thru COD6. I looked at selling them but I would only get about a tenner back!!!

most was a 8800gtx oc when they first came out, and then within a year the g92 core was out, running quiet and cooler, needing half the power and was just as powerful i decided never again.
HD5870 - Never spent so much on a card.
£299 on a 9800 pro 128mb and £334 on a gtx 295 from Aria
The PC im fixing at the minute has a 9800 pro.
And guess what... drivers don't work................ :mad:
I spent £100 on an x1950pro and about the same for a refurb gtx260.
My current 5870 purchase (£199 +vat from Aria) is the most I've spent, always had a limit of £100.... the last card, a 4870 blew that one.

so based on this trend, my next card will cost around £250
£160 for my current gaming card (6 years old now), the ATI X700 Pro 256MB. At the time 128MB cards were the rage and the guy at the computer counter thought I was nutz for wanting a video card with 256MB in memory!!!

Most expensive card I ever bought?
£250 for a Trident TVGA 9000 with 2 MB of ram! (ya baby). I remember adding that extra 4x256kb push ram ($25 each x 4) in myself and thinking WOW! This thing has 1/2 as much ram as my computer! Now why don't they offer "expandable ram" today in video cards you can add yourself?

8800 GTS 640 when they were brand new for 190 i think, great deal, lasted 3 years and never sweated till the day it died, im about to buy a new card probably going to end up with a 5850 as the 470 is way higher

£311 for my new ATi 5870, which is not working yet (I have a post open about this - might be PSU related. Please feel free to comment/help - in the same forum section.)
Plus I guess you can add £128 for the new PSU I might need, so not cheap!

I'm ashamed to say I once spent £400+. I think it was a nVidia 6800, but could have been my 8800GTX. I just spent £250 on a GTX 295 (thanks Andy), but that's the extreme limit for me now, and I hope the card will last me a couple of years.

Don't forget those those just use onboard graphics. :D I just my ATI Radian 200 onboard graphics for a year playing games.

It was Voodoo2.. I started off on the Voodoo1 series - absolutely fantastic cards for the time. Nothing could touch them! Those were the days!

I always wanted a Voodoo2 SLI setup.. Unfortunately, by the time I had saved up enough for the 2nd card, Voodoo3 had come out :lol: A mate of mine used to get through cards so fast. He bought the Voodoo3 3000, and within a month, decided he wanted the 3500 to get the TV tuner as well. He offered me the 3000 for less than I'd budgeted for the Voodoo2 :lol: I've probably got the Voodoo3 somewhere still, actually as I never got rid of it. No idea where it would be though..

16 MB of ram, very nice! We had 24MB ram in our stores gaming computers, that was pricey, but the gammers loved it. (I believe it was when we had ATI Rage II 4MB cards in the computers)
Voodoo3 in a P60? That computer must've been getting on a bit, even then? I had a Voodoo2 in a P150 and my Voodoo3 went into a K6-2 366...

I was a student back in those days so couldn't afford regular upgrades.
A Voodoo3 must've been a monumental upgrade for a P60! :D That was the thing I liked about the Voodoo cards though.. To a point, it did so much work compared to a standard video card, the speed of the CPU didnt matter very much! :D

Ahh, the Pentium 60!! Wow, those things were very troublesome I remember. The P66 solved it but Intel's rep was hurting bad.
