Hi guys, could use some advice with regards to overclocking.
I've just build myself this budget gaming rig,
Intel Pentium D 805 2.66mhz SKT 775
ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA
X2 512MB Kingston HyperX 3200
XFX 256MB Geforce 6800XT AGP
120GB Maxtor IDE HDD
Sansun true 450W PSU
Akasa Zen case
Sony DVD-RW
I've managed to get the CPU to work at 3.15GHZ but anything higher and although the system POSTS, Windows just hangs.
I've read that increases to the cores voltage can help with this but my mobo doesn’t have any options to alter voltages. I've seen programs advertising they can software mod FSB and voltage while in windows, do you reckon this will work with my pc even though my mobo doesn’t support it?
I read that as the memory is directly linked to the cpu as you increase the CPU FSB the memory frequency will increase accordingly. Is this true? I've also read about people who modify it manually but again my mobo only gives me 3 speed options and its already set to the maximum (400?), I tried lowering the cache latency to 2 but suddenly half my ram disappeared so I set it back to 2.5 as I was worried about damaging it.
Can anybody suggest anything else to help me clock this chip any further. I've heard it can reach up to 4GHZ but I'd be happy at 3.5. :)
Thanks in advance!
