I bought this from Aria. It has a manual speed control.

When I first installed it, the fan speed was approx 1400 on minimum and over 3000rpm on maximum. I adjusted to about half.

A couple of days later, the BIOS flagged up the fan had fallen below the threshold of 1000rpm. I checked inside and the fan had stopped.
Only when I turned the speed to max did it come on and spin at max speed. When I turned the speed down to half the fan stopped again.

I don't know if this supposed to happen or not. I have ASUS PC Probe software which monitors the CPU temp & fan speed. I assumed this software will switch off the fan unless the CPU temp reaches above the threshold, but I sat & watched it, and it didn't. I had to manually turn the speed to max to get it going again.

So is the fan faulty or should the software be doing a better job?

Your comments would be welcome.

Sounds like you may have cool and quiet enabled or something similar set in the bios, ie when the cpus cooler the mobo lowers the fan speed (voltage) and haveing lowered it yourself means its twice as slow (make sense??) Disable C&Q in the bios and see what happens.

Either that or just disconnect the speed control, normally those things can be detached.
I'd much rather trust the speed of the fan to the device which knows the CPU's exact temperature!
