Though some here might like a bad luck story! Some may have already read this, but though some might like a read.

**Disclaimer** I won't mention the resller who the pc went to, as I don't believe in flaming any company (no matter who's fault it is). This is just the story of the pc, and I won't disclose the name of the company to anyone over pm either, so don't ask. :)

I built the rig back in October last year, had issues with it from the start, from cold boot issues, corrupting hard drives you name it. Anyway, over the summer it started freezing. (It wasn't ram, it was the board). So In October I RMA'd the board. I went through 3 RMA's until I got fed up, and the reseller sent me a brand new board. Then, the new board wouldn't boot, kept restarting. So I got the whole system sent down to the reseller, all they did was pop RAM in slots 2 and 4, and it apparently was working now. (Alright, it wasn't working 100% as it should, but I was willing to get it back and just use it and have a quiet life).

Until I opened the box when I came home tonight and found this:

pic2:

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/4112/damage2.th.jpg (http://img230.imageshack.us/i/damage2.jpg/)

I took it out of the box, and to my horror found that the power supply had sheared from it's mountings and has ruined it:

Words cannot describe how angry I was. I sent the box in to the resller with a crazy amount of packaging. They sent it back with only 4 corner protectors in an empty box.....

A 1000 watt Zalman banging about freely isn't a friend to delicate pc components.

Not good, not good at all.

Insurance claim against the courier by the "reseller" by the sound of it.

I have on their forums.

I'd expect it was insured, if it wasn't, then bully for them, they had duty of care over it.

I totally respect your reluctance to say where you got the system from but i am seriously intreagued all the same.

I find it hard to believe any courier would, intentionally, treat a parcel so rough that the psu would be ripped from its mountings, it must have took a huge whack to do that.

Was the box noticably damaged at all?

cje

That's what's funny, even the acrylic side window is intact, but the psu has been thrown upwards into the system.

The screw mount have actually bent. I'll try and take more pics later. I am currently between crying and punching a boxing bag. :p

Hi m8

I know which company your talking about as have seen the post on their forum.

Its quite shockin how they have messed you around and to just say that moving the memory fixed an issue is the biggest load of rubbish I have heard. Even if that was the case would mean the motherboard had a fault and as such the motherboard should have been replaced.

Hope they sort it for you m8.

Seen it too on the 'other' forum. I am sure it will get sorted. Still, that should never have happened!

That'll teach you to go Intel.
But on a serious note, it's appaling that this is ongoing, and I hope you're able to get this sorted soon.
Although, I've never encountered an issue with the "other" forum or its support, albiet I've had a few issues with deliveries.

If it was me I'd be taking the PC into the shop and going mental!

cje
28-01-10, 22:13
It's about 300 miles away, so that's gonna be hard.

But rest assured, I'll be going mental tomorrow. I just want my money back. The law states that a they should be given reasonable time to fix it. They've had months.

Iaink
28-01-10, 22:33
the law states, if it's faulty you're entitled to a refund

and make sure it's a refund of what you originally paid for it, then use the money to treat yourself to an i5/i7 for having to go through the ordeal :)

cje
28-01-10, 23:03
That's what I am asking. I won't accept any re use of the current components, as it's had a huge impact. I'll take more photos tomorrow morning. The mounts have actually been bent! And the antec 1200 is very sturdy.

Just because something doesn't physically look broken, doesn't mean that it'll work as it should afterwards.

The resller can claim insurance for the full amount paid for all components, then yeah, probably an i7 would go down nice, just for the hassle. :(

Iaink
28-01-10, 23:20
yeah, just say this is the last time you'll accept a 'repair' or 'replacement' and now you'd likea refund as you are entitled to for the full amount you paid for it.. by now the same money will go a lot further...

Well, I gave them a lot of time to sort it out. After the first faulty board, I asked them to test it before sending one back. Obviously didn't. If they had done my return correctly
back in November, saw that I was receiving multiple faulty boards, then they could have sat down, looked at the Asus RMA replacements and tested them thoroughly.

I went ape just before christmas, and got a new board sent out. Obviously they were in my good books then, until that one was installed and wouldn't boot.

I went into great lengths to take care in posting it down. I even got my brother to wait for the parcel force driver, and instruct him on the best ways to orient it for travel etc, and to take the greatest care possible.

Hope it gets sorted soon & I guess you'll be avoiding that seller in the future :)

ooh, I'd forgotten I was still a member on the 'other' forums. Thanks for the heads-up :-)

I hope they do the right thing and sort out quickly for you (well, quicker than they have been!).

If they sort it out properly I will still use them. What's funny is that parcel force didn't collect it Monday. The reseller said it was booked but no one turned up. My mum was home all day. It went yesterday anyway. If they won't sort it out properly I'm taking them to court. Simples! (in meerkat voice).

RM are quite good with their compensation schemes

Sent a special delivery parcel before christmas arrived a day late.

I got the postage costs back and £5 compensation :)

I'd be naming and shaming them after that... the true measure of any company is what the do when things go FUBAR... delivering things on time as ordered is not a true measure in my book.

Seems like they really screwed up on this, complete negligence for packing it like that with no protection, and as for the 'fault finding'... sounds like a complete joke.

Name em, so I know who to avoid. :)

I've just joined the site and this is the first thread I've read ..
@mac124,
Having worked for Great Universal Stores I can well believe how roughly packages are handled, I have seen boxes of electronics thrown across the floor then booted into a corner and used to form a set of steps !!

I also have first hand experience of how badly they can be damaged, regardless of how well packed they are; I sent an expensive turntable I was selling through the post.(Marked "Very Fragile")
All the original transit bolts were secured, all the original packing materials correctly fitted, the box was sealed and the wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed inside a second box made from cardboard cut from a large fridge freezer container.
The turntable arrive totally destroyed, the transit bolts (6mm) had been ripped from the chassis by the force of whatever they had done to it, the tone arm mount had broken off and the cartridge destroyed and the platter had ripped through its polystyrene packaging and smashed the lid.
I estimate it had been dropped from about 50-60 feet onto a solid floor.

Yeah, I can well believe how rough couriers can be!!!

My biggest problem was that the company involved insisted in talking to me about the damage, even though the package was in the north of Scotland where I had no access to it, luckily the buyer sent me plenty of high quality photos of the corpse and we both got our money back.

A sad end to a classic turntable.

Hey all,

Just an update. The issue has now been resolved, and I am happy with the solution.

The resller has agreed to build me a system for free and ship it for free up to the value of the damaged system. Which was around £1100 when I bought all of the components from them. To replace like for like it would cost about the same.

So I got about that amount as credit for a new build. I then naturally specced a far higher i7 spec, with me paying the difference above it.

The customer service has now been excellent, and sorted it out fairly quickly in the end. I think this is a good outcome for me, I should have a working pc soon, for the first time since October!

Really, it was in the reseller's favour to do it like this, as I now have spent nearly £900 extra on top of the "credit" value of the old pc.

In the end it has turned out very well indeed. I still won't name the company, some here know, but I do not want people reading bits of the thread and avoiding them. They have sorted it out very satisfactorily indeed in the end.

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait for the new one to arrive. :ninja: I can then game with my new iiyama 26" that I got from here.

Glad you're happy with the result... But look at what it took to get there, if I had an experience like that I'd 'NEVER' use the company again... I'd actually rather pay a little more to get better customer satisfaction than risk enduring that sort of experience again.

I've said it before... the 'true' measure of any company is how the deal with the problems and screw ups... and in that regard they failed completely in my opinion. Doesn't matter what the end result is, the fact it's taken months to get there is disgraceful. :)

Glad to see your replacement is being built but just to be on the cautious side wait till you get it up and running before you celebrate too much, hope its a really great machine and works as it shold do.:P

Just incase anyone was following this thread and knew who the company was....

They have now built me a new pc to my specification. They gave me a credit to the value of what I bought the components in the ruined pc. I nevertheless took the opportunity to upgrade a bit and now I've got a fully working system that's in my signature. At long last. :)

SInce they actually did the decent thing in the end; maybe you should give the name of the company as it shows they are willing to correct their mistakes.
