I have spent last weekend building a new PC.
E6400 - Core-Duo
1Gb - Corsair ram
250Gb - Sata drive
NEC - DVD-RW
7600GT - PCIx Graphics
975i - Foxconn mainboard (has extra pata for old hdds)

The thing is a lot faster than my old PC (rough test was a game loop, 58fps on old PC, 384fps on the new!)

But, I really need to change the PSU, the one I am using is a standard ATX generic type that came with the case, there are a number of issues I need to resolve.

The mainboard has a 24pin main connector, it also has a 8pin power connector for the CPU's and it also has a std molex near the first PCIx slot. So I need a PSU with the following as a minimum:-

24pin main power connector
8pin CPU power connector (or 2x 4pin type)
2 standard molex power connectors (one for graphics card, one for DVD)
1 SATA power connector

I have looked at the various PSUs and can't find one that has the 8pin CPU power connector, it looks like 2 of the usual 4pole CPU power connectors side by side.

The PC is running, but I haven't stressed it or had it running for more than an hour yet, I do not want the existing PSU to fail and possibly take out other things with it.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You should only need 1 of the auxilliary 12 pin power connectors for a Core 2 Duo. The other 4 pin is for high wattage CPU's like extreme editions and some P4's.

A PSU that comes with 2x4pin's meets the 8-pin requirement for the other CPU's.

If you're in the market for a new one I'd go with an Enermax Liberty 400w. Should be just the job for your specs :)

I have two and they're brill :)

Enermax are a great make, but Id probably go with something that can give a little more juice than 400w if needed.

Something like the Enermax Liberty 620W or the OCZ 600W GameXStream would be a great choice.

Good to see you're having the forethought to upgrade your PSU as well. :D Its amazing how many people just keep with the generic one that comes with the case for upgrade after upgrade and are then surprised when it gives up one day and takes half the other bits with it!! ;)
