Ok guys,

Next Saturday (or Sunday) I'm looking to move into Manchester finally. Commuting is doing my head in getting to work and back lol. Up at 5.30am, get back 9pm average - bed by 11pm. Total of 5hrs travel a day if everything is on time and no delays/cancellations. So, anyone from Manc, i need your help.

It's gonna be a quick thing this is. I'll no doubt be viewing a place on my lunch or after work, so need some good places.

Here we go..

Area - I don't know Manc at all, just know the route to work from Picc Station. I don't want to live near work as it doesn't look like the safest area and when your new to a big city like i am.. i want to get to know Manc a bit better, so with that said, somewhere in a good, nice safe area.

Location - Has to be Manc. Sick of train travel.

Budget - Ideally, no more than £400 pcm (bills included or not doesn't matter)

Size - I want to have my own place, so 1 bedroom flat/studio's only.

Deposit - Don't mind as long as it's not stupid.

Distance from work - Something that involves either walking and/or buses. Don't want to be paying for trains as well. Megarider tops.

So thats it. Help :D

I've been using Gumtree.Com a lot recently. Seems to be a great start.

Hi m8

Well can't help you with where but if you got a place that was along my route on the way into work I'd pick you up in the mornings. :)

I come along the A34 bypass from wilmslow way.

Any good you reckon?

When through 10 pages of ads there.. thats the only one that seems to tick most boxes.

I don't mate sorry, you would have to grab a local newspaper or something. MEN or Metro. Have a look in them.

lol, I used to work literally over teh road from there :P

Salford isnt the greatest of areas, but Chapel Street is literally spitting distance from the City Centre and train / tram and bus links

Not sure what the links to Aria are like, but if you want to move to Gibbo' sroute into work then get your cheque book out as South Manc can be quite pricey :P Especially along teh A34 until you get right into the centre

If you can get thta for 400 notes a month it isnt bad at all even if its like a 6 month rental whilst you sus the areas out.

I moved form the North East to Manc about 12 years ago and I know how daunting and confusing it can be - If you do go for that one you also have the choice of renting the other room should you need some company / extra cash :D

Rightmove is also pretty good for rentals - try THIS (http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/find.html?searchType=RENT&locationIdentifier=POSTCODE%5E3695735&insId=1&radius=1.0&displayPropertyType=&minBedrooms=&maxBedrooms=&minPrice=&maxPrice=400&maxDaysSinceAdded=&retirement=&sortByPriceDescending=&_includeLetAgreed=on&primaryDisplayPropertyType=&secondaryDisplayPropertyType=&oldDisplayPropertyType=&oldPrimaryDisplayPropertyType=&letType=&letFurnishType=&houseFlatShare=false&x=40&y=15)link for stuff within a mile of Aria for under £400 notes a month

Good luck mate :D

Stockport has some nice areas. Heaton Moor, Heaton Chapel & Heaton Norris - all run alongside the main A6, so a 192 journey up the bus lanes would take 20 - 35 mins I guess. This i'd prefer to citycentre living far less hussle and bussle.

Some good pubs etc in Heaton Moor, plus you've got Heaton Chapel train station if you want to get into town for night out etc in less than 10 minutes. (or again 192 bus). lots of leafy streets and not too expensive.

South Manchester has all the other areas Hyde, Bredbury, Marple, Romiley, Offerton, all pretty decent safe areas but would require a car. So could pick up a banger and make way in quite cheaply with a chilled out location. Benefit of being close to all the major road networks.

Cheadle, Handforth, Wilmslow, Didsbury more expensive - didsbury great nightlife <<<< all would require a car but all close to A34 route

:clap

If you do want to live in town centre itself check out Castlefield see if theres any 1 bedroom apartments going. Close to Deansgate locks quite a nice area of town. Guy who used to work at Aria used to rent out Freddy Flintoffs flat @ castlefield, 2 of them paid £300 each a month, had a games room/bar/balcony/waterside view. So a flat share could work around there.

Manchester seems like a good place to live. I was browsing online flats/houses in Manchester and Glasgow last weekend out of curiosity... felt very jealous that property is so cheap in the North! It's a rip-off in Cambridge and London :(

My bro had an apartment inside a large victorian house, £395 including gas, water and electric :clap

Not far from the Parrs Wood cinema, Nandos etc

although I don't know about Wilmslow/handforth being less than £400 LOL

jHorner who just joined Aria is moving from Reading, hence why I'm in Manc tomorrow helping with the van. He'll shout that actually I'm helping him move to Stockport not Manchester, but the price difference was astounding when I looked :(

When I say near its closer to the Shell Petrol station than the Parrs wood complex

It backs onto Didsbury park for those morning runs

I'll through this into the mix as it where I live...

Wythenshawe :)

Forget what people say about it being a rough area and all that i've lived here all my life(34yrs) and never had a problem.

It's very close to ALL the links. bus, train, motorways & airport...

There's quite alot of new builds aswell apartments and houses. which i'm sure you can get close to your budget..

Had a quick search with 1 of the main letting agency's and came up with this lot although there upto £500 maybe still worth a look.

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/find.html?searchType=RENT&locationIdentifier=BRANCH%5E23687&previousSearchLocation=TLB+Homes%2C+MANCHESTER&useLocationIdentifier=true&savedSearchId=&displayPropertyType=flats&minBedrooms=&maxBedrooms=&minPrice=&maxPrice=500&maxDaysSinceAdded=&includeLetAgreed=true&_includeLetAgreed=on&primaryDisplayPropertyType=&secondaryDisplayPropertyType=&oldDisplayPropertyType=flats&oldPrimaryDisplayPropertyType=&letType=&letFurnishType=&houseFlatShare=false&retirement=&sortByPriceDescending=&x=71&y=6

Anyway good luck

I'm Wythenshawe born and raised. Family still living there and it's always been find. Loads of chavs about but same in Nottingham where I am now. Doesn't really deserve all the bad press the place gets.

They need to sort civic out though. Hardly any proper shops.
