But the manufacturer has gone broke!

I have a Hiper 530W PSU that seems to have died (some will say I did well with it :))

It was bought in April 2007 with a 3 year warranty. EC813088

So do I send it back to Aria now?

Ok so I called Aria customer services and got the brush off.

Aria CS rep advised that the warranty supplied by Aria is only for the 12 months and the manufacturer (He confirmed that they have gone bust) would have honoured the 2nd 2 years.

Well According to the Sale of Goods act the item must be of suitable quality.

Well I would suggest that not lasting a minimum of 3 years makes if not of suitable quality, my contract is with Aria, I would like someone senior from Arai to contact me to discuss this further.

I had a similar experience with Abit, and after thinking pretty much the same thing as you i fndout that the reseller only has to honour 12 months, the rest is with the manufacterer, doesn't matter if it goes bust or not.

The fact that it didn't last 3 years isn't the resellers problem, its the manufacterer.

Maybe Mr Aria or Gibbo can sort something out for you though.

Goodluck mate.

I know the the reseller only has to honour 12 months. I remember on the Novatech forums we were disucssing this when Hyper went broke. Someone will clarify for you mate.

As I said above as a PSU should last longer than 3 years I am entitled to dispute this with Aria as the contract to supply goods fit for purpose is with Aria.

I have checked and double checked this with consumer direct, with whom i have an open case.

Hi there

To my knowledge on this one it was avertised with a 3yr warranty and by law its down to us to look after the product.

Hiper have gone bust, glad to be honest really there power supplies were a total piece of crap.

As they have gone bust it is down to use to replace the unit for you, I would advice an OCZ 500W Stealth as thats a far superior PSU, I shall update customer service and make sure they act on us.

Thank you Gibbo.

My other concern is the postage costs to send this thing back to you.

Aria only refund £10 iirc this si gona cost more than that.

Hi there

In this case you are correct due to manufacturer warranty so will be covered.

However on value PSU's that cost like £10-£15 they would be 1yr warranty and if one blew up after 1yr it would not be reasonable to expect it to last longer simply because in a court one would show PSU's go right upto £200 and therefor anyone buying a £10-£15 PSU should not expect it to last so long especially if they are going to be upgrading the system over this time with more demanding components.

However Hiper advertised a 3yr warranty and so did Aria, they have now gone bust but it is now down to Aria to replace with an equivalent performing part, which would be an OCZ 400W Stealth but shall replace with the better 500W model.

HI there

Who are you using? I'd be very surprised if it cost more, I've sent bigger items with RM for less money.
I had Fedex collect two tyres from my house and then deliver them other end of the country, £17 for collection and next day delivery, so that PSU should not cost any more than £10.

again thank you that would be more than acceptable.

Hi there

Should be fine m8, I send a rear differential cover and other car bits in a box twice the size of a PSU using RM Special insured upto £50 and it was like £9-£11 can't remember exact figure.

For cheaper just use RM signed for.

Yes, it's an affiliate link  BUT I've sent an entire LR Discovery Towbar, and a catalytic converter (seperately) using the standard £7 odd economy home delivery.

Hi there

INFACT - Throw that power supply in the BIN, we shall ship you a new one out m8. As its pointless us having it back due to them going bust.

Well, that is good actually.. I've only ever had a supplier offer me that sort of deal once before, and that was on a bass amp with a manufacturer who I have an endorsement deal with! Not seen it happen that easily on a standard purchase, so good going :)

I guess it also helps when you've been a long term customer, my first order was a Cyrix 150+ ;), and they shop has a guy who is all about the image, and promotion of it, of the company.

That is excellent service and what should be expected. Wonderlust, I used collectmyparcel.com to ship mine, cost £8 with insurance. DHL bloke turned up to my house and picked it up. Edit: Scratch the shipping stuff - mind on separate track, duhhh

Ok, new PSU arrived this morning all ok. Just got to shut down and install it! Many thanks again.

Just as a small side note.

The parcel was just the psu box in a citylink bag.

I know the PSU is in a fairly hardy cardboard box and has on layer of small bubble wrap but I am unsure if that is really enough packaging.

Hi there

Absolutely fine packaging m8. Those PSU's travel round the world packed like that.

The only difference is we get one big box full of 6 or 12 of the little boxes you got, so the packaging is ideal. :)
