View Full Version : Core 2 Duo
You guys are all so pro C2D, I'm interested why.
They beat out the competition by a fair margin, the lower models on par with the higher end AMD's. Then all you have to do is look at is the performance you are getting for the price.
Well i just upgraded from a dual core opteron overclocked to 2.6ghz, which is practically the equivalent to the top end amd chips speed / performance wise and my core 2 duo 6600 (middle of the range chip) at stock speeds that benched as good or better than my overclocked oppy did. My 6600 c2d is now running at 3.6ghz which is a 50% hike in speed and slaughters any benchies i got with the oppy.
My 6600 cost around £200 and a similar performing amd chip will cost more than double that. Makes sense to me to go C2D if you want the most bang per £.

I'm not pro C2D strictly. I'm pro \"whatever gives the best performance for the best price\".
Which, at the moment, is the C2D. If AMD manages to come out with something that was at least as good for a cheaper price, then i'd be recommending that instead - as i'm sure most people would do on here. Fact is, you cant beat C2D at the moment with anything that AMD has to offer!
if you search around the net, tomshardware etc after a few days its impossible not to be pro C2D everywhere raves about it and the stats are ace.
Still yet to get mine, but the credit card arrived yesterday so will order on monday i think :D

Cheers for all the hints.
Can anyone give me a hint between the difference between 32 and 64bit? I know it's something to do with more numbers, but that ain't helpful.#
I know C2D is 64bit, just a little push in the right direction please.
64bit is classed as faster, but only 64bit os's and programs will take advantage of the better memory access and cpu capabilities, with x64 from windows, you get much more ram capabilities.
