Got a strange one at the moment.
Im running a i7 920 on a P6T.
Have my 5.1 headphones plugged into the MB audio ports and also have an PCI-E X-FI Extreme Audio card for my speaker system.

But the problem im having is when i boot up a game the speakers start to hum! Ive even set the headphones as the output device and although they are clear the PC spakers are still huming even though nothing is going through them.

Had this in both BF2 and Grid. Updated drivers didnt do anything.

Any ideas as i cant play any game at the moment!

Got it sorted, seems it didnt like me plugging my hifi system as the rear speakers, Took them out and it went away!

Now all i can hear is the coil screaming in my PSU & GTX280:mad:

I had something where when I move my mouse in Stalker I can hear some kind of fan spinning, / strange noise in the pc case?!

I had a provlem where a fan cable had made the case ever so slightly live. This then transferred into my sound card causing a hum. I sorted it after removing everything and starting over with a fresh wire up.

On some days i move my mouse i can hear a hiss from the speakers, You sure its from your case?

Dont search for X-FI and Nvidia in google, millions of threads!:o

yeah it could be interferance on the speakers, but it sounds like a fan noise. But only when I move the mouse.

I remember that back a while ago with a 8800gtx and a 9600gt, like a hiss when you scroll or move the mouse sometimes

it was graphics card related

M4T VW - if you mute does the hum stop?

The hum sounds like a grounding issue to me. Check the grounding situation on your amp.

I think its the x-fi mate if your running nvidia. I had an ati card and had no issues. I then moved to nvidia and noticed it. i then pulled the x-fi and placed it in a system with on board and it was fine. I then sold it and moved to onboard in my main system and it was fine. I then opted for a zonar and once again its fine. A conflict with with both drivers perhaps?

I've had this problem for a while but never enough to bother me, I think it is just to do with interference as I always use on-board audio. This isn't as bad on my new motherboard but on my older machines it was terrible at times.

Ground Loop Hum
http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/

Try plugging in headphones into the same connection as the speakers are connected. If you get a hum in the headphones...it's the card/drivers causing issues. If there's no hum then you've got a ground loop issue.

My old speakers used to just start humming real loud when i turned them on, never knew why. Got so annoying I chucked them away lol, regret that now :(
