Uhm, yeah...

Main reason for asking is:

I was just to reboot the computer, however, instead of rebooting (running "reboot" as su under linux ;) ) it turned itself off and refused to get back on again. I tried a few different things, including resetting BIOS, put in the original gfx-card, disconnect everything else that might be drawing power, to no avail. Seeing as this is a Packard Bell from 2005 and is running an AMD64 3200+ CPU, I thought I might as well try the intel MB I got from a friend of mine, he promised it was well working and such, and it did, except at the time, my PSU was far too small to run it, and the PB-case is miniATX so can't take the intel board anyways.

OK... I just put "enough" cables into the ABit AI7 MBto make it work if it got power... seeing as nothing happened (fans didn't even start) I seriosuly suspect it's the PSU. So I've ordered that and a ATX fulltower case.

Now... I would very much like to know excactly what socket is on that particualr motherboard...
Processor
- Supports Intel Pentium 4 /Celeron CPU (Northwood)
- Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology
- New power design for Prescott CPU
- Front Side Bus: 800/533/400MHz from ABit's site doesn't tell me anything.....

I do, however, suspect I can't use any of the CPU's available at the Aria site as a replacement/upgrade.

I intend to only use this motherboard for a short while anyways.... I'm drooling a bit over quickcode #37699 and extras to make it run.....

However, I need to buy the parts in steps, so untill then, and all that.

It's an intel socket 478 motherboard.

If you really need a CPU/RAM for it. Check e of the Bay, there are quite a few socket 478 CPU's going on there. Make sure you got a cooler for it as well. Beware, they do run very hot.

I've now got the new caseand PSU, the "new" intel-MB is in place with 3 GB RAM on it...... working nicely so far, installing Ubuntu Linux as I type in this on my gf's Win7 PC.

I'm gonna upgrade with new shinies from now on untill a complete system can be built, with AMD Phenom Quadcore as the basis. Any suggestions of a motherboard for £75 or less? Not intel, of course, I want to support a slightly smaller company which I believe does amazing things with a lot less resources than intel themselves have.

Ohh, nice ones :D

The onboard gfx-card will of course be disabled and I'll go for a new-ish type nVidia (seeing as they allegedly have better Linux drivers than AMD).

Couple that up with the Quickcode: #37839 CPU and I should have a box that'll last for a couple of years.... enough to get me through the next WoW expansion, at least :lol

Bought the motherboard... RAM next.

Gonna "splash out" and get a fairly recent nVidia-based gfx-card....something like this (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GTX+260%2F280+Series/Gigabyte+GeForce+GTX+260+OC+896MB+GDDR3+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=37713) for example.... or maybe this (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GTS+250+Series+PCI-E/Asus+GeForce+GTS+250+1024MB+GDDR3+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=37483)?
