View Full Version : Coming soon
Some tasty hardware came to me today. Be doing a review very soon, so keep an eye out on this sub section for it over the next week.
Can you guess what coolers..
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9682/59036077.png (http://img192.imageshack.us/i/59036077.png/)
Probably guessed one already :P
But can you guess the other?
CLUE: Not even out in the shops yet ;)
Hi there
Then when my boat full of coolers arrive you can review those as well m8, but gonna be six weeks before they arrive as sea shipment.

i think the first one is a v8 and the second one is a v10 :D
OJ
not going to bother guessing the first one its to hard :D LOL
but is the second one a black edition of the first one
The markings look like a megahalems
Are these the new noctua ones?

One down, one to go. Mega is the right one. The Mega Shadow; currently the best air cooler on the market right now!

A new Prolimatech CPU Cooler? They need a to release one after the Megahalems I suppose.

Well as far as noise goes my TRUE is silent with a Nexus 120PWM attached...
Until it goes above 55c then it gets very noisey very quickly!
you know what i mean
hmm.. what fan is best and when is it on sale
No word on date as of yet.
Depends on your use mate. Best performance, 2x 38mm thick 120mm fans like 2 San Ace H1011 (http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=75_169&products_id=1353)'s strapped either side of the cooler :P

When comparing fans, it depends what you want. You can have a Silent as Noctua pushing around 60CFM @ 6dB or a Delta pushing 190CFM@ 59dB , which sounds like this:

Delta fans are good for an 1hr or so, but you really want those San Ace fans. You can run them 24/7 too as unlike other 38mm fans like the Delta above, they undervolt (to a slower speed) very nicely and the motor doesn't tick or moan. Thats why there used a lot by people who watercooler to push air through the radiator.
Btw, Noctua fans don't push that much. All companies lie when it comes to fan specs apart from the high CFM fans like Deltas, or San Ace.. can't like about noise there lol (CFM give or take 10-20). In reality, Noctua P12 for example pushed more like 30CFM tops @ like 24dB.
Mr. Strawberry
15-01-10, 21:41
wow that was loud
how loud is 6dB when you are about half a foot away from the case?
Don't forget them CFM figures are for unrestricted airflow which is where the scythes do very well where some fans can loose half of there rating..

I too have heard these and it's put me off, despite their being a high working:leaking ratio. Air cooling is much less complicated.

It's true. It leaks where the pipes make a sharp-ish turn into the RAD.

my rigs are all pretty silent except when gaming (not something I do often) and then not overly noisey as I dont play FPS and nothing else I have really pushes my GTX260 even at 2048x1152!
The only thing I need to sort outr is my HTPC as its got a noisey HD3650 in it, looking to get a nice Accellero L2 pro to sort that out!
or mod an old NV silencer (cant see it working) or an Accellero X1 still have my doubts ;)
Ooh, Venomous X?;)

you are right it doesn't go that high ;)
I am currently playing NFS Most Wanted but that natively only supports a max resolution of 1280x1024.
Fortunealty some kind person has written NFSMWRES.exe which allows me to play at my monitors higher res but stretches the asperct ratio, but its not obvious.
GPU-Z gives
Maximum gpu load of 91%
Maximum Memory controller load of 61%
Maximum Memory used 242Mb ;)

all i am saying is i have never heard of them leaking. so i am ashuming they are lies until i see proof. mainly because i never never knew the coolnt could burn through steel. so drop the attitude you seem to have when ever you are posting to me. if i see proof them yes i will still question what that person done with it to get it leaking but i would still believe everyone when they say it leaks and i am still going to get one
Just to play devils advocate... You could flip it around and say have you got any proof that NONE of them have EVER leaked? Or is it that you have just never heard of any of them leaking like you said? In which case, Wonderlust HAS seen/heard of some of them leaking. So what makes his statement any less valid than yours, and makes it ok for you to say that the people he spoke to were lying?
This Venomous X is a thing of beauty! I'll stop teasing now and get on with the review :P

yeah but how do we know the people he spoke to are telling the truth or never tampered with it to make it leak

thats what i like to hear
i knew them both :o
...The Mega Shadow; currently the best air cooler on the market right now!
i thought the noctua d14 was untill the venom x hits the shelves? tbh tho i aint seen a propper apples vs apples test of air coolers since xbitlabs did theirs about a year ago. wht do they kepp testing them with different fans and rpm and then say that x is best when its going to be when it had 2 fans spinning faster than all the others.
why dont they run them passive and that would be fair.
tbh the mega and the d14 dont do much better than my ifx, not enough to warrent the upgrade but the venom does if the numbers that are floating around are to be believed.
yeah but how do we know the people he spoke to are telling the truth or never tampered with it to make it leak
I am playing devils advocate here.. But how do you know the people who have said it have never leaked are also telling the truth?
And have you ever come across a company who have mass produced something and have had a 100% record of never shipping a faulty item? I havent.. I think you can say that you have never personally heard of one of them leaking, but to say that there isnt a single one in the world that has had any sort of faulty connection from manufacture just isnt believable!!
EDIT: And also, I've known WL for a few years, and I'm pretty sure he wouldnt say something on here without a good foundation to back himself up..
Mr. Strawberry
16-01-10, 12:27
please stop because at the end of the day i am going to buy one so you really are just wastring your time
any chance you can get your hands on a danamics lmx to compare that too :D
  :chairfall:I'm not trying to make you not buy one! I'm just questioning how you can say everyone who says they have leaked is lying.. :)

Well the Mega shadow is currently the best on the market air wise. So i have that to pit against the VenomX; Thermalrights answer to replace the TRUE.

You haven't seen one leaking, that doesn't mean that they never ever leak and that anybody who says they do is lying. Products do go wrong, not everything is perfect. You haven't got one yourself, so how do you know what it's like, it could well be poorly constructed and leak.
Coolant burning through steel? What steel, I was under the impression the H50 was Al and Cu... I have this 'attitude' as you make stupid comments about everything, which gets quite annoying.
please stop because at the end of the day i am going to buy one so you really are just wastring your time
This is just  worthy, nobody is trying to persuade you not to buy one, well I'm not, just pointing out the mistake in your statement.
Mr. Strawberry
16-01-10, 12:37
the tubes are made of flexiable steel. and how is saying that i want proof that a product with a 5 year life span. leaks after 2 months a stupid comment
woa is there a new type of bendy steel?
sry i had to :o
from reading about yes, some h50 have leaked, but nowhere near as many of the older coolit products have.
no matter either way having water pipes in your pc case you are still taking the risk of leaks. not sayin it will as im sure there are more people out there with wc that have had no leaks as have.
Mr. Strawberry
16-01-10, 12:52
i can't find it now but there was a video where they took the system apart and found out the tubes were steel
That sounds good, would probably go well with a Noctua fan.
http://www.overclock.net/water-cooling/635064-fan-shroud-testing-corsair-h50-updated.html
good read for you if you get a h50
fyi the tubes on the h50 are a double walled steel reenforced composit.
Mr. Strawberry
17-01-10, 18:29
i knew it had something to to with steel :D
its like iron filings in the plastic to stop the pipes kinking from what i can tell.

Mr. Strawberry

i must be real geeky if i can tell a heatsink by its mounting mechanism :o
any chance you can bug dynamics and get that lmx cooler in the mix too, i know they cost more than those others on the bench but would like to know how it does vs the venom x.
what about getting an arrow 14 too?
Arrow 14 is still in testing but i've lined up a sample once ready.
Never heard of the LMX, link?

If your case has a hole in the back you might not have to remove the mobo, depends on the case though.
Personally I would happily remove the mobo to avoid those horrible push pins.

That V1 i remember seeing in a review once and came last. In fact the system crashed it was so hot lol.
The other cooler is fine, but better off trying the Mugen 2 mate; a lot better and one of the best bang for buck coolers on the market right now.
''Push-pin'' isn't that great. Only takes 10mins tops to sort it out properly with a proper mounting kit. Better temps.
Better temps & less chance of bending a pin which kind of breaks the hsf even before it's fitted.
I feel more at ease knowing it's bolted on, after I had a pin pop out on me. I now avoid push pins like the plague.

i think my case does have a gap in the mobo plate but its not for cooler installation :(, i may just dremel it out a little, that'll help with cooler exchange in the future..
i was looking at the Mugen 2 with its 5 separate rads :) that is a monster, i also like the fact Skythe add the smaller heatsink directly above the CPU IHS, even though pipes dissipate heat well i reckon that area gets real toasty on other coolers...
but i just took a peak at that link Marsey put up
http://www.danamics.com/lmx/
i want one...:D, i'll stick a 120x38mm Delta on there & she'll cool like a beast!!
expensive though..
if it makes those noises when you take it to peices i want one just as a paper weight
what i want to know is is its price justified when you compare it to the best air on the market.
edit
a whole under the mobo also helps cooling as it stops any heat build up under the mobo as it can escape.

Lol... Get that Cooling unit done! Weve seen loads of reviews on the Noctua unit, we know its a beast! I am more interested in the coolink because of costs and size.
just my 2p :D

Haha, will be ready soon. Venom was done ages ago. Mega Shadow was done last weekend. Just these two left then it's done. I do have more coming but i'll add them to the graphs at a later date. Main priority is the big 3.. Noc, Venom, Mega :)

I should have results for all those at some point as well. It will be good to compare the results I get to yours! I'll be getting the Corator sometime this week and already have the Noctua and Megahalem tested. The Venom we're currently working on.
Oo nice. What platform you benching them all on? Mines just AM3.
i like that your doing am3 as most are done on i7/i5 atm so it should be good to see if any do better/worse on amd chips.
if you want tho i could test them on 775 for you  see how many off them keep me stable @4.4ghz
Yeah. There isn't much testing done on the AMD side when it comes to cooler reviews which is a shame as when you see 'X' cooler do well on Intel.. when put on AMD it's a mixed bag of tricks and you often find a cooler that was 4C hotter on Intel, does better on AMD. So it's great to have a chance to show AMD users what to expect on their platform as it is very much an open race when it comes to the AM2/AM3 platform.

He's benching on Core i7 bud. So will be good to see the difference!
Do we have a new king yet? :)
come on rawz the masses need to know :)
Haha, it's uploaded onto OCT site. Just need to insert the pictures tonight guys.
Been hard with all the travelling to and from work. Only gives me around 2hrs each night to test lol.

i still think mine looks better :)
i cheched when i had it out and i can just squeeze a 38mm fan in it too :D
hows the base on the arrow? is it as bad as all tr's others? i thought mine was quite flat till i hit it with the wet n dry :o
cant wait to see how this one goes tho as its basicaly my heatsink vs the current champ :D
edit
are you going to be using the same fans on both? a 3 fan test? what about the fan mounting? i found i got the best with 1 in the middle clipped to and sucking thru the front tower and one on the back sucking thru the 2nd.
Should be here tomorrow with any luck :) Nicked the pic elsewhere :P
What cooler you have? IFX?

Nice job. I love lapping, but when you come to sell it.. it hurts lol.
thanks, not the 25/30c+ drop i have seen some people report but then im not running a65nm cpu either so, im happy non the less :D
i was really shocked by how bad the 2 "flat" surfaces were tho, you cant really tell untill you start to sand it down and your going for an age with only a small bit going red. the cpu had a wide dip all along the middle of the ihs above the cores.

This is with an i7 at 4ghz. It will be good to see what the performance is like on an AMD setup!
