Not sure when they plan to, but looks good. Wonder if anywhere else in the country will be doing this?

YEah, Oxford already has it apparently. That's where I used to live. Now I'm in Norfolk though, the buttock of the country, where everything comes last and people don't like progression.

Digital switchover: 2011
Fibre optic internet: 2011 I think, might be 2012
Oxford was apparently the first city in the UK to have a Park and Ride, back in the 1960s according to Wiki. It also states that Norwich is the biggest in the UK, but the park and ride wasn' opened until the 1990s.

I don't even have broadband wires apparently. They just changed the frequency in the phone line...so I was told, so I doubt i'll ever get fiber optics :(

What broadband wires? The way broadband works is that signals are broadcast on an easily distinguishable frequency from telecoms signals, which allows them to run in tandem on the same telephone lines as dial-up or conventional telephone but still be easily distinguished and separated by your microfilter.

Broadband works on the current telephone network. You don't need a special broadband wire.

So are you on dial-up then?

Getting fibre optics stuff put in here as we have a lot of villages that are nearly 8 miles from the exchange which means SLOW broadband for them

IMO optical fibre is not worth it unless done on a large scale. At my 6th form we just had Optical fibre specially fitted so that we could have more bandwith for Teachers RDCiing and pupils accessing their files from home, external email etc. Cost quite a bit but it bottlenecks at both ends of the optical fibre. Your back to regular copper wire from there. Once the majority of the phone network has been changed it will be much more worthwile. I do think this is a good start tho :)

Find your nearest exchange:

I thought there was an exchange nearer to me than 3.8 miles away, but it seems not. How much does link quality degrade per mile?
