I placed an order with aria the week between Christmas and New Year, so I understand it may take longer than expected due to the bank holidays. But this is taking the biscuit

I rang them a few days after the order was placed to find out what was happening. It turns out their security company had put the order on hold because it was a fraudulent transaction.

let me explain,
I placed the items I wanted in my basket and my girlfriend kindly paid for them with her credit card, it’s safer to pay with a credit card online and mine doesn’t have a big enough limit as the order came to £721.20
all the details were correct i double checked them and then my girlfriend went over them. I still don’t understand how this is fraud, I live with my girlfriend therefore sharing the same delivery address, we have a joint current account. Also the details had to have been correct as they took the money from her credit card.

the bloke on the phone told me I’d receive an email within few days from their security company. - This never happened.

In a few days i rang them back in the morning and spoke to Chris who apparently emailed the security company explaining what happened and told me he would ring me back, i would also get an email from the security company within 4 hours (as this is their lead time for dealing with requests)

still no email and I was horrified when i tried to ring on a Saturday and the automated message told me they only open Monday to Friday to answer calls.

I had to leave it till the Monday, rang them and asked what was happening, he told me they had not got back to him and I would be better off cancelling the order. I was apprehensive as the reason i ordered when I did was because of the vat change. The man on the phone basically said there was nothing he could do, so I cancelled my order on the understanding i would have my money back by the end of the week; (he actually said this). i asked for an email confirming the cancelation and he told me he would do it.

it is now 7 working days later and still no money or cancelation confirmation email, i dont understand what the holdup is and I’m scared this is going to drag on, i cant buy the bits for my new pc until I receive this money back.

After several emails with no response and a lot of money spent on hold to aria for unhelpful customer service I’m still none the wiser on what’s happening.

My order is still showing as processing not, cancelling, cancelled or whatever it should show.

The order number is,
EC1198238 - 28. December 2009
Aria, you are not doing much to secure my order with you, other than not giving me my money back (but you wont give me my items either), which is just starting to hack me off and make me look elsewhere.

They mentioned a firm called third man or some thing like that, they gave me the phone number and when i rang they kicked off with me.

"how have you got this number, you shouldn't be ringing this number."

then followed by a hang up tone

The 3rd man is a fraud system used in online transactions.
It takes all the info you provide and checks it with what you have used before.
Things like phone number, address, names, cards used at the address etc and gives it a transaction score.
If this score is over the set ammount then it will give it a high risk. It should have still taken payment though and is down to the company wether they carry on with the transaction.

Most likely it went over the score limit they have set and flagged it as red due to your girlfriends name at your address and also a new card being used at this address.

I don't normally get involved with these matters as I think it's best left for aria staff only but just thought you should know what the 3rd man was.

Thank you, that is probs what happend. My girlfriend still lives at my address though, but it is a new card. This still doesnt make up for the fact 3rd man just didnt bother emailing me to sort it out.

anyways, i would just like my money back which is proving difficult and i cant really afford to keep ringing them at their premium rate lines.

Hi Spud

There is nothing I can do now as its out of office hours but am not very happy about how you have been treated.

I've already spoken to Aria about this third man and about making the security checks in house and if thats his attitude with our customers thats not impressive at all.

What I will say is I shall make sure the CS guys reply to this thread tomorrow and look at making sure this is resolved.

In order to in some way make up for the complete failure on Aria's part you have an apology from myself and if before you place your new order, you drop me an email Gibbo205@hotmail.com with all the quickfind codes for the products you want and I shall see if I can discount your order by approx £50 to try and make up for all this messing around you have had.

Just had phone call from aria,
my order has now passed security and will be despatched today for delivery tomorrow morning.
I've had an email confirming the dispatch; also Gibbo has reduced my bill by a considerable amount as promised.
Cheers
