Some musings on the i5 660
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+i5/Intel+Core+i5+660+3.33Ghz+%28Socket+LGA1156%29+-+Retail+?productId=39238
Thoughts on how this compares to the I5 750 quad.
2.66 ghz quad 8mb cache VS 3.33 ghz dual 4mb cache
why have intel gone crazy with so many new 1156 cpu's when they could have kept 1366 and expanded that line.
is the 660 the best bang for buck i5 dual, price VS speed
it seems a cracking amount of ghz for the money, i wonder if 5ghz stable could be achieved with this
This CPU has the built in graphics if used with the X57 range of boards if I recall correctly. How would this compare to onboard gfx and to decent high end gtx 260 say graphics as their is no bottleneck between pci-e slot and cpu slot.

discuss :beer
I was toying with the idea of getting one but as i wasn't sure if it was compatible with the mobo i chose, so i contacted DFI to find out. However they took there sweet time getting back to me and after doing my homework i chose the 750, and odered it before DFI got back to me. I went for the 750 mainly due to the fact they are cheaper / more powerful and to err on the side of caution to make sure i did get a working pc.
Looking at that review they do occasionally give the 750 a run for its money and best it in one or two tests.

well LGA 1366 is there highend market socket which is what the i9 CPU will be realised for later this year.
LGA 1156 is there mainstream market socket. which i am sure kinda explains on its own
also to my understanding i have been hearing alot of rumours about a X68 chipset being realised same time as the i9.
i am also guessing that in the future when the is a 8 core CPU with HT that will be on LGA 1366

No such thing as i9. It's going to be called i7 980x, will initially be on the x58 platform, although in the future I don't doubt there will be an X68.
so is this a hyper threading debate or a on die gpu debate?
well imo, and thats all it is, a dual with ht is better than a normal dual but not as good as a propper quad, same as a quad with ht is better than a quad but not as good as a octacore.
the cpu/gpu under 1 hood jobbie. well its a marked improvement for an intel graphics sollution but it still gets hammer by the offerings from amd/ati and nvidia.
the more i think about it the more and more i see this as an ideal base for a mobile platform. low power small footprint on a pcb and not too power hungry, well no more than most cpu and on board gpu so...yea.
netbook, notebook or lower end laptops, along with the office boxes and maybe if it can do hd stuff then htpc's too. cant see many people like you or i going for one unless its for one of those purposes.

well i knew it was the i7 980 something but i could remember if it was X or E and also alot of people still know it as i9 and thirdly apparently the case stick will say i9

so out of the above CPU's which has HT and which doesn't?

The gulftown is going to be called i7 X980 according to the intel road map. Whether its real or not is anohter matter.
Out of curiosity, I shall be getting a ASUS sabertooth i55 mobo courtesy of asus :D.. Im wondering what cpu I should opt for... I have a very fast system as it is, im hoping this one will be less power hungry and more of a "day to day" system but performance is still wanted.
The 530 look any good or shall I see if i can find an 750?
Ive been looking over the 6series chips and I cannot justify spending so much on a chip that performs to a lesser standard than a cheaper chip (the 750).
Thanks
Andy
make a build log want 2 see it :D
