View Full Version : Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe Socket 939 motherboard with broken fan
hello all,
Basically I have a
Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe Socket 939 <small>2x PCI-E SLi / NF4 / motherboard in my PC at home. The fan located near the bottom of the board (not the CPU fan) is bust, well it doesn't sound good and it get's very hot very quickly once started up so I havn't been able to use my machine for some time now.
Can anyone tell me whether this fan can be replaced or do I need to change the whole motherboard I hope not!
I wasn't able to unclip the fan from the board which is why I was wondering what the story is here ?
Does anyone have any ideas out there ?
Many Thanks,
kboy

This one keeps croping up
thanks for your reply !!
Maybe seen as you have the same mobo as me you could help clear up some confusion. I've just taken my whole PC apart and it's now lieing in a hundred pieces around me  This fan is labelled on the mobo as HEATSINK1, so it's not the fan ontop of the CPU but right near were the graphics card slots in wiht ASUS written ontop. I took the mobo out hoping i could unclip this fan to order a new one but it doesn't look that simple, do you have any idea's ? or do I have to send the whole mobo in to ASUS ?
What is this fan's purpose anyway do you know ? My CPU has it's own fan and the graphics card has it's own fan aswell, this fan just seems to sit ontop of nothing just sitting against the board.
I was really hoping i could just unclip this fan and clip on a new one but i don't think i'm going to be that lucky.
thanks
I would imagine its the Northbridge Fan?
And I would guess, if its the same as most other NB coolers, to take it off you should just be able to squeeze the (black?) clips together on the back of the motherboard and push them through to release the fan. There might be some thermal paste on there which might stick a bit. Before you try it though, let someone else who has this board confirm it!
yip I gave it a go and it came off no probs :D I've just ordered the AKASA chipset cooler AK-210 fan so hopefully that should fix this problem and get me back online. Thanks for all your contributions!
Dont try and run the computer, or even power it up without the fan on there - they are there for a reason! Even if the fan doesnt work, the heatsink will take away some of the heat and you a bit of a chance to notice and switch it off. No heatsink is a bad idea!
Glad you got it off tho! :)
