Anyone tried one of these? I've tried an iiyama and Dell and both seem a bit underated. I've got an iPhone so thought I'd be well used to using Windows similarly, but it just doesn't work. Slower, less responsive and your finger obviously gets in the way!

Anyone else tried one?

Not yet, but (with the unveiling of the iPad) I think they're going to become pretty huge over the next 2-3 years. I certainly want one!

The next big thing maybe?

it'd be nice to have one, but with the amount i use computers i can see the keyboard and mouse sticking around, much less movement required

Agreed, the keyboard and mouse require a lot less movement than touchscreens do.

I guess it depends on what the touchscreen is for at the end of the day. Ticket kiosks and the like make good use of touchscreens but I know I don't want or need one at work or at home except for on my iphone.

Agreed. Simple systems designed to do a particular job utilise touch screens well, but I can't see it taking off on the home PC which does a lot of things. Typing would be less comfortable, gaming would be almost impossible except for point-and-click games, and it'd make your arms ache when navigating the OS and opening files and such. Could be good for graphics designers, using your fingers as a pen. As for media and HTPCs, it simply wouldn't work. The whole point of the remote control was so you didn't have to get up or lean forward.

Touchscreens are great on laptops, as you're close enough to the screen to press it.

Only problem is that very often the screens aren't so good because of the touchscreen layer.
They seem better in that respect more recently, and this looks to be "the year of the touchscreen laptop" (again? :) )

Less good on desktop PC's because you are (or should be) sitting a bit further away from the screen.

I cant see the appeal of having a touch screen on a desktop. A smeared greasy screen?:(
I'd rather have some sort of touchpad, standalone or integrated into a keyboard.

Gesture control technology is something I'd be excited to see on a desktop.

I actually have a touchscreen desktop as my main PC here (and typing on it): HP iq770

TBH I don't use the touchscreen much - its too far away from the keyboard.

I also have an HP TX2 touchscreen laptop - and that touchscreen I use all the time when web browsing for clicking links, still need that keyboard for typing though - so full tablets are out - convertable laptops are best IMO

There's a youtube video out with some Korean guy playing Starcraft on a giant touchscreen. It's absolutely amazing.
I'll see if I can scare up the link to it.

Can't see the point of touchscreen mionitors for everyday use - too tiring. Tablets are something else.

A certain foreign branded cheapo supermarket will be selling a 21.5" full HD multitouch screen from next Thursday at £199
