View Full Version : Its all ordered..
Ok so my new media centre / everyday pc is all ordered, actually got a couple of parts already / recycling a couple of bits but it will basically consist of the following.
Got.
DFI MI P55-T36
Silverstone Sugo SG-02 and 3.5" to dual 2.5" hdd bay converter.
Nvidia GT240.
Be Quiet 350w SFF psu, need to work out how to fit this in the Sugo.
Pioneer BD / DVDRW combi drive.
On order.
i5 750 (as the new 600 series isn't officially supported yet on the DFI so didn't want to risk it not working, and the 750 is cheaper).
4GB OCZ Platinum 1600.
250GB 2.5" Western Digital Scorpio Black 7200RPM.
Will post a few piccies up as and when i build it.
Nice build, should be a great workhorse power machine
Bit of an update, got the motherboard / cpu and hard drive now so bolted those into the case.

I also have a second laptop drive so when i ordered the case i also ordered a 2x laptop drive to 3.5" drive bay convertor. The WD 250gb Black will be my os drive and the 160gb slower drive will be a storage drive for documents, music etc.

Mini ITX board is a bit lost in a matx case lol. You can see from the cooler on the gfx card why i ended up going for a matx case, very few mitx cases allow for more than a single expansion card.

The GT240 is an Inno3d ichill edition with upraded cooling so should be nice and quiet when watching blurays.

i dont think it will but if it does get niosey you could remove that fan and cover and cable tie a 120mm fan to that heatsink, the size of it :D
should make a monster movie player :D
Yep thats always an option i guess, plenty of room for that kinda thing if needed. Pity i can't say the same about the cpu cooler. Looks like i am going to be stuck with the stock cooler for the time being, why are 1156 coolers so thin on the ground?
If anyone knows of a decent 1156 cooler that is less than 100mm tall PLEASE let me know.
Its more of an all round pc tbh with a bit of picture editing thrown in and maybe some very light gaming.
Love how much this board packs into such a small area!

Probably the first person I've seen with a core i5 in a media center...probably why the low end coolers are so thin on the ground as people don't have that kinda of money to spend on media PCs :p
what about a h50 or one of the coolit eco jobbies rawz was on about the other day?
might be on the pricey side but you could mount it on the 120mm mount on that rack thing near the front as an in fan or even on the vent/holes on the side as an out? altho the 2nd option might be niosey with the air rushing thru those holes.
edit
sry i was just guessing it was for the living room with it being in a sugo as its that kind of case and you went for a mitx board. not saying it wont be a very capable system, far from tbh as the gt240 is a stella little gpu (if over priced imo) and with a 750 and 4gb of ram i can see it throwing out some very impressive numbers.
Mounting a 120mm rad might be a bit awkward as all the fan mounts are 80mm though i supposed with a bit of modding it could be done if i remove the fan mount rack as you call it and mount it directly into the case cover?
I'll see how the stock fan is under normal use, if it's too noisey then i'll think about other possibilities.
i know my Q9550 fan was extremely quiet before I upgraded it. I would think the I5 would be of simliar quality.
Almost done now, just need the memory.
Bit of cable routing, shame the cables mess things up, it takes longer to try and get things looking neat than it does to put everything in!!

Spare psu cables zip stripped out of the way, not entirely happy with those but at lease they are out of the way. Blu Ray drive fitted. Mountings for 80mm fans, might invest in a couple depending on what temps i get.

Unrestricted airflow, more or less, directly above the cpu heatsink.

Check out the monster stock heatsink :D anyone know if the 800 series cpu's get a better stock heatsink? This maybe a better "upgrade" rather than trying to find / fit a decent sub 110mm tall cooler in there.

Thats it for now, expect more updates next week some time. :)

No worries, case looks great:)
Wow...
I really want one of these boards, they're so cool!
Thanks for the pics... you've tempted me now. :(
Looking at those pictures, Aleksander, I really don't believe your signature applies to building a computer. I wouldn't know where to start :P

Oh, building a computer is easy. :)
Once you order all the components and get them there, it will all become obvious.
If not, then feel free to PM me, or phone me (or I'll phone you, w/e) if you need a little extra assistance/help.

I'm happy for the lovely people at Aria to do the legwork for me for now. Maybe once I've been hanging around here long enough then enough computer knowledge will have diffused through from you guys so that I can understand instructions and I may take you up on that!

Unfortunately there are no plans for watercooling here. Only "mod" i have done is to try and fit a sff 350w bequiet psu in but even that hasn't quite gone according to plan as its a bit too big to fit the other side of the case so i have "ghetto" fitted into the stock psu place, this has given me a bit more room but i am still struggling to find a decent cooler that will fit.
Anyway its all finished now so i'll try and get some pictures and benchie results later.
This looks very tidy in such a minimal way - i loike it!

Cheers Coiler :)
Ok ran a couple of quick benchies, on start up the auto overclocking decided it wanted to run it at 3.6ghz and 1.3ish volts on the cpu  i am using stock cooling remember and i never realised this till after i had everything installed. So i reset the bios and skipped the auto overclock and put a more reasonable 3.2ghz at 1.2v into it.
http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac6/Aleksandr_Orlov/cpuz.jpg
I ran these at that setting, memory is running 1600mhz 8/8/8/24 iirc.

All in all very happy with it and would be even more so if i could get a decent cooler for it.

My friend uses an 860 in a media/cruncher rig.
I have a 620 in mine, good value option :)
