Some of you may have been following my idiotic posts about stupid problems recently and be wondering \"How the hell can he manage to build a PC\" ! Well iam almost done, last buy not least i need a CPU but not just any old CPU, iam looking for the best of the best. Around 2.8 GHZ minimum to fit in this (http://www.aria.co.uk/productinfocomm.asp?ID=25239&SpecialStatus=1#comments) motherboard. Any suggestions?

I was thinking about something dual core...

Regards

Jason

o_0 does that mean when i right click on my computer and goto properties it will say 5.86 GHZ ? what EXACTLY is dual core?

as sexy as it looks it wont fit in the board the socket appears to be different :-( i got one of them 'am2' sockets. Does a similar processor exist in am2?

Dual Core pretty much does what it says on the tin(chip;)).

Its basically 2 cpu cores in one chip, so if you bought the cpu PP mentioned above you will get 1 physical CPU, but inside there will be 2 cores. I cant remember what it says in the system properties, as my 6400 is at work at the moment.

As far as AM2 goes, basically any AMD chip that has X2 in the name is a dual core. ie \"AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+\".

If you want the best mate then it has to be intel core 2 duo, nothing amd has out currently comes close to the chip pp mentioned. Even the lower end C2D cpus give the top end AMD cpus a run for their money and cost ALOT less. Oh and there is always the QX6700 which is quad core if you want to REALLY go ott which is also £600+

The best AM2 is the FX62 and that costs £460, my £200ish C2D 6600 would kick that into touch overclocked and probably beat it at stock too.

yeah, but I think he said he already has an AM2 motherboard?

But surely if your spending £432 on a processor, changing the motherboard and getting a E6600 would be cheaper?!

Core2Due E6600 Nice :)

Stock 2 x 2400.0 Mhz

OC'ed mine to 2 x 3456.7 Mhz 8)

had to up the Voltage a touch to keep it stable past 3.4 , but I think its worth it

How far have people taken teh Voltage with these ?

Nice going, what cooling you useing @ what temps?

This is a cpuz screenie of mine, think the mobo undervolts a touch not 100% sure of bios setting but i think its set nearer 1.4v than it actually gives out.

I agree completely, if you're going to spend £100+ on a processor it has to be a Core 2 Duo.

*sobs* i'm still using my good ol' 4000+ Athlon64, OC'd to 3GHz (almost :()

I have teh Bios at 1.425, but Bios reports it at 1.40
Temps are a little amiguous at the moment,
lm_sensors does not work on my Abit AB9 Pro :( (http://www.lm-sensors.org/ticket/2159) NB not my ticket
Bios temp was reading at 50°C, but I guess it would have cooled a little while rebooting

hmm, im gonna go home and check it will fit in my cm-stacker ok. One of the reasons i didnt pick intel was because i suffer from inteliphobia  (ive had lots of bad experiences in the past) iam considering putting this board in another pc and starting a fresh!

I notice intel go up to 3.2 dual core...

LOL your so funny matey  , for the price you are prepared to pay for an fx62 you could buy an intel C2D 6600 AND motherboard (asus p5b deluxe) AND have change, overclock it a tad say to 3+ghz and its waving bye bye to the fx62 in the perfomance stakes.

I was a die hard amd fan but tbh there comes a time when you have to see the light and bite the bullet etc etc and go for the best setup for the money regardless of what you think to intel. Im glad i did.

i know but i got overclockamaphobia as well because everything i overclock tends to blow up. i was just looking for a top of the range fancy board and a top of the range nice fancy cpu something that can cope with just about anything i throw at it the budget for the board & cpu is £1000 and i want 2 try and avoid overclocking things. The boards got to fit in my CM-Stacker 810 and its got to be am2 and have PCI-Express 16 cos thats the graphics card ive got and im fed up returning things because they dont fit lol poor me :(
