I'm guessing this is a genuine mistake....check my Direct X version :p

Not so sure... Run DXDiag and see what version it says in there...

Hmmm it says DX11 except I am obviously not and then again dxdiag says I have 2808mb of video memory :p on my 1gb card.

My old CPU-z says I'm dx10, which I guess strictly isn't correct (dx10.1) but it's more correct than dx11 :p

It's right, you're running DX11, but your graphics card will only use DX9/DX10/DX10.1 paths.

Software and hardware, the software is DX11 but the hardware can only use 10.1 etc as Martin says.
