so i have found in my possesionan old p4 531 and i just wondered how far do you think it will go?

i am only talking air cooling so it wont be 6ghz and i believe my ud3r will restrict how much vcore i can give it but im not 100% on this as yet, but what do you think, can i hit 5ghz?

I'll say you'll be lucky to get to 4.5.

sounds like a challenge :D

tbh i will be happy with 4ghz as i have been told my bios will stop me giving it more than 1.5v which i think is a bit daft seeing as it will let me give a 45nm chip 2.0v.

will let you know in abit as i am just cleaning it up now :)

If you wanna pass it on when you're done, I'll happily take it off your hands ;)

4Ghz would be nice, shouldn't be too hard, but you should be able to get above that really.

i was thinking that too, untill i got into my bios and it only lets me give it 1.4v  really 1.4v for a 90nm prescot

this is as far as it goes on 1.4v in bios

not happy to say the least but i willl dust off the p35 and see what that will let me do when i get a chance as i know that can do monster fsb :D

edit

tbh tho im thinking about sticking it in a fishtank full of oil as a media center but im not sure yet.

Nice to see a old prescott out. I have one :D unfortunately it's not for overclocking :p

Shame about the vcore settings tho 1.4v :cop: have you looked for a over-volt jumper on the board?

You should be good for 5GHz on air to be honest. I clocked a Pentium D 925 to 5GHz (needed 1.7v) on air and it still finished a Super Pi whilst staying below 70c!

But that's a 65nm chip, being fed 0.3v more than what Marsey can run through a 90nm chip. No way will it get to 5ghz.

thats it, i am voltage limited with this board, best i can get from it is the 3.97ghz i linked to above :(

I swear mine was a 90nm chip...

All Pentium D 9** are 65nm, the 8** are 90nm.

How the ****?!?

Mine had trouble hitting 3.1ghz!

what ram and mobo was it with tho?

i know this one will go higher if i can get more voltage into it :D

4gb Kingston, P4M900M2-L
100mhz though, couldn't affect it that much could it

They can't be that awful, surely :S it's gone now anyhow.

Just try connecting a Sata 300 HDD to a Via Sata 150 port....

I did, never noticed anything wrong :S

They are ******** though, I had to buy a whole new motherboard/cpu set because it rejected my 8800gt, they all have problems with G92 cores apparently.

true that.
