Car drives very well and everything works. Its saving me a small fortune on fuel, not worked it out yet but seems to be returning around 50MPG with ease, Can't complain for £900. :)

Hi there

So says the man who is about to buy a van with seats in it. :p

I still have the Stang for when I want to experience a bit of power and single figure MPG levels. :D

Hi there

That van has a V8 in it?
If so I hope it sounds like a V8 and the tuning potential must be huge. :D

More fun that the ATR, sounds interesting, what you getting?

So sorry I ment a V6

New car if it pulls off not FWD and has about 335bhp and twice the torque at about 350lb torque I think thats the correct figures

Its a 1.9 diesel actually, does 130 easily, porches suspension and lowered as you can see from the pic.

What happened was my eldest brother borrowed it a fair few Christmases ago and dropped it down a ditch about a mile away from home :P

The only thing that broke was the obvious few dints down the side and the wing mirror, wasnt worth doing it up and selling it, and its such a good car, he decided to rat it, and its ****in fun! should see the looks you get driving around town, especially when we wear our gass masks, goggles and jump suits

Porsche suspension, I dont think so. Not been done on a Golf. Might be Porsche brakes?

1.9 PD is a good engine, All at the top end though.

MK3 should have never been given a "GTI" badge, It was too big and heavy.
Thats why i put an R32 in ours:clap

They did a 2.0 8V and a 2.0 16V.
16V is more fun but 8V has more torque.

If you want a MK3 go for the VR6. No contest!

Hi there

The MK2 16v are a favourite at track days as the more revvy nature of the 16v engine suits track work and they are bullit proof.

For what I was willing to spend the Golf Diesels with PD engines were a lot more than 1k unless they were knackered, hence why I went with the HDI from the French instead.

MK2 16v is a great track car, I nearly bought one but wanted more power to start with.

Just finished off my mates MK1 20VT, Now thats rapid.

Hi there

Well I filled the tank up this morning from nearly empty with Shell Vpower Diesel. Can't really notice any difference on performance yet, supposedly takes 2-3 tanks to notice but what I did notice was how much smoother the car felt running on this fuel.

Before when engines revs were between 1000-1200rpm the car would get the diesel shake basically engine labouring wheras now it remains smooth.

Once I am down to 3/4 of a tank gonna fill tank again and work out my MPG though it won't be took good as got stuck in slow moving traffic on the A34 this morning for ages due to sections of road not been treated and icing over so everyone was barely moving.

Why go for vpower? I thought this was meant to save money.

Hi there

Seems to run out of puff past 80mph?

Watching the video it seems to take a while to go from 80mph too 100mph and slow again past that, well not slow but not quick either, at a guess is it a 300BHP EVO or a tad over 300BHP?

Its a lot faster than the 306HDI for sure, but to give you an idea of the Mustang, in the time it takes yours to go from 100-120mph mine the Stang would be at 150mph. :D
80-100mph in the Mustang takes just over 1s :D

You wanna be careful posting video up though, it shows you speeding on a public road, I've heard all kinds of bad stuff like the internet police prosecuting people, so be careful m8.

Hi m8

I want the car in tip top shape and heard good things about Vpower Diesel helping clean the injectors, make engine run smoother without causing harm etc.

So my view is give the car 2-3 tankfuls of Vpower to run through to clean everything and then go back to normal diesel unless of course the car runs that much better on the Vpower, I have noticed the car is a lot lot smoother on the Vpower than the usual Shell Diesel extra stuff and if rumours are right that Vpower boost MPG then the extra cost might balance itself out which would be worth it alone for the smoother running.

I timed 30-70mph in the 306HDI in 3rd gear and it was a shocking 12.5s LOL

Compare that to the Mustang which does 30-70mph in 2.75s :D

Biodoid

I had my Polo sideways in my unit carpark today but it regained traction pretty quick even though its slippy as anything. Not sure what tyres are on it but i bet they were built for ecomomy and not safety!

Hi m8

She accelerates in 4th to 165mph quite fast, basically acceleration does not die of at all in 4th, for example I think 60-130mph is something like 8.5s and that rate of acceleration does not die off.

I've never pushed in 5th with it been an overdrive gear, as its geared for 240mph, Saleen reckon they can hit 200mph but Id not want to go that fast in one as they are not build for top end speed but I reckon one could hit 180ish due to the sheer power.

Its far from standard on the suspension side. :D

About on par with a stock E46 M3 and its no heavier than one either, but I have fitted fully adjustable suspension, shocks, arbs and a lot more, but all pretty cheap due to parts mass produced. :)

Hi there

Done absolutely nothing to the way the car looks.

But engine got a supercharger added, CAI, LT Headers, Smaller pulleys, bigger injectors, colder spark plugs, bigger MAF, uprated fuel pump and probably some bits I missed.

Suspension well adjustable shocks all round, Saleen springs, adjustable thicker front anti-roll bar, thicker rear anti-roll bar, engine lowering mounts, engine lower bracing, uprated ball joints, bumpsteer kit, caster/camber/toe adjustable top mounts, adjustable lower control arms, adjuster upper arm, adjustable panhard bar, panhard brace, Shelby GT500 brakes with DS2500 pads probably some stuff I missed. Suspension GEO setup by Chris Franklin from Centre of Gravity.

Done A LOT to improve the handling then by the sound of it, thats a problem with American cars, they don't seem to be set up for anything other than straight roads from the factory, at least thats the impression i get.

HI there

A stock Mustang V6 is terrible and I mean terrible.

A stock Mustang V8 GT is not that bad. But to make it a lot better takes about £1000, for shocks, springs, roll bars, big transformation. Ford will sell you a Mustang now with this kit fitted at factory (Trak Pack) which makes a big improvement or just buy a Roush that basically has it from factory.

Then if you want more you can do as I've done and go crazy. :D

Bio is there a lot of road noise at 50-100? or is it just the camera picking it up excessively?

Impressive never the less!

Gibbo we need a vid from the ****pit of the stang! ;)

I use Redex diesel which really clears all the soot out when using high revs. Usually after putting some in will use a lower gear than normal eg. 4th gear @ 70mph etc

HI m8

I shall find an old 30-70mph video from when the car was 500BHP which I think does it in 3.2s but I never do above 70mph on public roads, let alone film it. ;)

Plus for my performance stats I use proper equipment (Racelogic Vbox) so that way there is no discrepencies of speedo error, human error etc. etc.

HI there

Well I've just refilled my tank, worked out my MPG and it turns out I am getting 46.5MPG at the moment.

I am guessing thats about right, the car does not see any motorway miles, its all country roads, A34 dual carriage ways which you only get to travel a mile before slowing for roundabout and then Manchester traffic, plus that is this last week with the bad traffic due to snow and me giving it some from time to time.

I am guessing with new thermostat in place so engine gets hotter (upto normal temp) and more air in the tyres (running 5psi under due to snow for more grip) I might get closer to 50MPG especially when road conditions improve.

So am quite happy with that, its certainly a lot lot better than the 16-18MPG from the Mustang, so instead of spending approx £90 a week on fuel its now more like £30. £240 or there abouts a month saved. :D

coiler
29-12-09, 10:02
Thats not bad considering the colder ambient temps, winter diesel etc

Think my mpgs down to around 40 ish at the mo, loads of short journeys with engine not getting up to temp :(
