A frequent typing error which I make is to accidentally hit the Caps Lock key instead of the Tab key or Shift key. Since the Caps Lock key is not required at all during normal typing, it would make sense (to me anyway) to move it to the Function Key row above the main block of keys where it couldn't be hit accidentally.

Another idea of mine is to take the \"combination keys\" (i.e. those keys that you hold down while typing other keys to get different results, such as Shift, Control, Alt and Windows) off the keyboard altogether and put them on a pedal board operated by the feet. This would minimise the need for finger gymnastics and would speed up typing. Since most of us are familiar with using feet and hands in combination (as in driving, piano playing, etc.) this shouldn't pose any real problems other than to disabled people without the use of their feet, and I'm not suggesting that existing key layouts should be banned ;) merely that the pedalboard should be an option for people who do a lot of typing. This in combination with the Dvorak layout should improve typists' productivity significantly.

Anyone got any other ideas on this theme?

Good ideas man, I like the foot pedal idea, i myself play piano so would be very comfortable operating a foot switch, and I NEVER use caps lock, so you could bin that alltogether for me lol! Although a lot of people do use caps lock, they should learn to use the \"shift\" key, as it's much faster, and you don't need to press it twice!

I would like to see \"caps-lock\" shifted (pun intended) to the function key row, next to \"F-lock\" and \"num-lock\" where it's out of the way, freeing up space for a more usefull key, e.g. an \"Enter\" key on the other side of the keyboard... just throwing ideas out there!!!
